Cordlife’s One Blood: A Fight Against Leukemia

Cord Blood banking.
I used to see it as a scam, you know, when you think of letting your newborn’s umbilical cord blood freeze in a Cord Blood Bank somewhere and then you pay every year for it to be protected. Thought it won't make much sense monetarily or health-wise.  I just didn't know.
That was before. I wasn't fully informed then. My eldest now is 11 and though she's completely healthy, how I wish I had banked her cord blood or any of my kids. I just realized the amazing things about the procedure and how it can save them.

Fortunately there are organizations who encourage and continuously trying to educate parents about Cord blood banking facts so that they can make an informed choice about it. In February 2010, Cordlife Philippines was officially launched.
Glad I've decided to attend the recent CordLife's One Blood event held at Crowne Plaza in Ortigas. I didn't know Mommy Dimples Romana has been a CordLife mom since 2015 and Mommy Jolina Magdangal, too, since 2014.
The event, One Blood is a national advocacy that aims to create awareness on a Cord Blood banking's importance as an available treatment option for families who may need stemcell transplant.
To spearhead the advocacy, Cordlife, in cooperation with the Philippine Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, this Cord blood banking services program choose moms with family history of diseases that can be treated with CordBlood stemcells, free of charge!
Since the Cord blood contains the healthiest stem cells that can replenish blood, regenerate damaged bone marrow, treat blood cancers and correct genetic defects, It is a potential source for cellular therapy and regenerative medicine.  That's why it is vital to save it through cord blood banking. Now families now have a chance to survive fatal genetic diseases like leukemia and other blood-related diseases.

We all know about leukemia, being one of the leading causes of death in the Philippines and around 3,977 were diagnosed with the disease in 2012 alone.  The mortality rate is at an alarming 5.3%. It is a silent killer among us that needs to be addressed.  Stem cell transplant using cord blood is said to be one of the treatments for leukemia.

Other services that will be extended to the beneficiaries include: Transplant Care, Cord Blood Network, and Cordlife Quality Guarantee.
