Back when my kids were little, the four of us used to watch an amazing Australian children’s show, Hi-5, on cable, and it truly left a lasting impression on me. I say that with love and admiration, of course.
Hi-5 was launched in 1999 and went on to achieve remarkable success as a kid-oriented program. It quickly grew in popularity over the years and went on to win several awards. For me, Hi-5 remains one of the best of its generation, perhaps even of all time in children’s entertainment.
We even went through a phase where the song “L.O.V.E.” seemed to play 50 times a day, morning, night, and yes, even in my dreams. At one point, when my sister first introduced me to the show, I genuinely thought it was some sort of biblical kiddie church program. That’s how wholesome it felt.
The music was incredibly catchy, upbeat, and engaging. Children absolutely loved it and honestly, who could resist singing along to “5 in the air” or “Some Kind of Wonderful”? I found myself singing and whistling those tunes around the house, much to my kids’ amusement and sometimes, their exhaustion.
As children grow older, their viewing habits naturally change, and I’ve definitely felt that shift. My kids may have outgrown that phase, and I can no longer find the channel where the show used to air, but I still find myself missing those songs and moments despite how overwhelming they once seemed.
So it’s truly delightful that local station TV5 has recently collaborated with Hi-5 World to introduce a Filipino version of this highly interactive edutainment show to millions of children in the Philippines. What a wonderful treat!
Glad that today is Rizal Day, which meant no classes! I was able to bring them to the TV5 station in Mandaluyong to witness the media presentation of this once-in-a-lifetime event.
TV5 shared that they are fully committed to the challenge of producing a show that meets global standards.
Before the launch, the kids were treated to fun art activities and lunch. They enjoyed unlimited spaghetti, chocolate cupcakes, and more. Just imagine the joy on their faces afterward, truly priceless. LOL
To my surprise, one member of the Hi-5 production team was actually a former talent from a similar show with the same concept back in the 80s. How cool is that? Remember “Ate Sienna”?
Indeed, weekdays are about to become more exciting and fun-filled!
Hi-5 Philippines will air weekdays at 8:30 AM starting June 15, this Monday. The show will feature an all-Filipino cast, marking a first for the franchise in Asia.
From left: Fred Lo, Aira Binas, Rissey Reyes, Alex Reyes, and Gerard Pagusa, the cast of Hi-5 Philippines.
I only recently learned that TV5 held auditions for the show last year. Had I known earlier, I might have taken a chance myself. I was part of a Glee Club back in high school, and I’ve always dreamed of joining a theatrical production or a choir.
Someone told me you can be part of the live audience, though I’m not entirely sure how that works yet.
They’ve built an impressive set, including a similar rounded platform inspired by the original show. The kids can even interact directly with the performers, making the experience feel more immersive and engaging.
The cast is composed of talented Filipino kids who will be performing the songs we’re already familiar with, but with a fresh local touch. While the staple numbers remain in English, some songs and stories will now be delivered in Filipino (Tagalog).
As always, the show stays true to its roots, educational, informative, and full of pure fun.
“L.O.V.E.” has always been my favorite Hi-5 song. I’m glad they chose to perform it live for us at the launch.
I didn’t manage to capture a decent video for this postn and I’m blaming them for it. Well, I was dancing and singing my heart out at the back the entire time. It was worth it. #sorrynotsorry
And I have another reason not to miss Hi-5 on Monday… Fred. Hah!
No, you’ve got it all wrong, I like him because he has this magical connection with the kids… and the moms. LOL
This dynamic new quintet all boast extensive backgrounds in the performing arts, channeling their energy into engaging kids through music, imaginative play, social interaction, and developmental growth, all in a super fun way!
Hi-5 Philippines will not only showcase world-class Filipino talent, but more importantly, it will help shape the country’s future generations.
There he is again! Yep, truly a people person :)
Fely Irvine also brought joy to
Hi-5 fans during her visit to the Philippines and at this morning’s launch. My daughter was surprised and didn’t immediately recognize her at first, maybe because of her new hairstyle. Did you know she’s Filipina? :)
The Filipino version of the musical group is currently one of only two Hi-5 casts in production, the other being the original Australian cast.
By the way, there will be a super fun meet-and-greet with the Hi-5 gang this Saturday at SM Megamall, featuring Fely Irvine! This event is FREE, just make sure to come early.
So spread the word, everyone!
Don’t forget to follow their journey on weekdays at 8:30 AM and 3:45 PM starting June 15, only on TV5.
Also, I’ve already uploaded videos from the launch on YouTube, feel free to check them out. You can also visit their official Facebook page for more details and updates.
