Century Tuna's 'Saving Our Seas': Championing Plastic Circular Economy and Coastal Clean-Up Initiatives

After a successful launch in 2023, Century Tuna, the Philippines' leading tuna brand, continues its commitment to marine conservation with the second year of its “Saving Our Seas” campaign.

In 2024, the initiative expands efforts to combat plastic pollution through educational drives on the Plastic Circular Economy, responsible waste management, and coastal restoration initiatives engaging local communities nationwide.

Mr. Carlo Endaya, Vice President and General Manager of Century Pacific Food Inc. (CPFI), emphasizes the campaign’s goal: “With the second year of ‘Saving Our Seas,’ Century Tuna is taking proactive steps to protect our marine environments. We aim to clean the ocean and promote a mindset focused on preventing plastic pollution.”

In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day, Century Tuna launched a school-based plastic recycling drive in Mabini, Batangas, in partnership with HOPE’s Aling Tindera Waste-to-Cash program. Elementary students collected plastic waste, exchanged it for cash, and learned about the Plastic Circular Economy—ensuring collected plastics are recycled and kept out of the environment.

HOPE Managing Director Ms. Ilusion Farias stated, “By picking up plastic, families can earn money while contributing to solving this global problem and cleaning up the Philippines and beyond.”

Following the school initiative, Century Tuna, alongside finalists from the Century Tuna Superbods 2024, CPFI employees, and volunteer divers, participated in a coastal and reef cleanup in Mabini, Batangas, collecting 357 kilograms of plastic waste from the shoreline and underwater.

Last year's award-winning “Saving Our Seas” campaign surpassed its goal, collecting over 10 metric tons of plastic waste to prevent it from entering the seas. Early in 2024, the campaign made strides with events like the Earth Day Palit Plastic Project in La Union and the Superbods Cleanup Drive in Subic Bay, Zambales, reinforcing Century Tuna's dedication to combating plastic pollution and promoting the Plastic Circular Economy.
