As technology continues to reshape the global financial landscape, bridging accessibility gaps, the 4th Digital Financial Inclusion Awards (DFIA) has emerged as a pivotal platform to honor those leading the charge in digital financial empowerment.
The awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and microentrepreneurs who are using technology to drive financial inclusion and innovation. Supported by Citi Foundation, in partnership with the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI), and backed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the DFIA recognizes those at the forefront of digital financial transformation.
Celebrating Digital Financial Transformation
The official launch of the 4th DFIA took place at the BSP, with key figures such as BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr., MCPI Chairperson Gilbert Maramba, and Citi Philippines CEO Paul Favila leading the event. They were joined by Teodoro Lamang Jr., the 3rd DFIA Microentrepreneur Digital Champion. The awards ceremony is set to take place on November 21, where outstanding microfinance institutions and microentrepreneurs will be honored for their digital advancements in financial services.
Governor Eli Remolona Jr. highlighted the importance of digital finance in creating secure, efficient, and inclusive systems. "The entrepreneurs we are honoring show that embracing digital finance is not just beneficial – it is essential for success," he stated.
Honoring Innovation and Impact
The DFIA recognizes organizations that have integrated digital tools to enhance financial services, improve customer experiences, and streamline operations for underserved communities. The program seeks to celebrate MFIs and microentrepreneurs who have shown excellence in adopting digital technologies that contribute to financial inclusion.
Nominees for the 4th DFIA will be assessed on their digital adoption, measurable impact, and contributions to improving financial access for microentrepreneurs. This year, the awards will recognize four microfinance institutions and fifteen microentrepreneurs as digital innovators for their groundbreaking work. Awardees will receive PHP100,000 and laptops to support their continued digital growth and transformation.
Strengthening Digital Financial Ecosystems
In his remarks, Paul Favila, CEO of Citi Philippines, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to advancing financial inclusion through digital innovation. “At Citi, we are dedicated to empowering communities and supporting digital transformation,” said Favila. “The Digital Financial Inclusion Awards is an important way for us to recognize the exceptional efforts of Filipino microentrepreneurs who are preparing their businesses for the future."
