The Philippines Sets Bold Vision to Lead Asia’s Creative Economy
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is taking a major step toward transforming the Philippines into Asia’s leading creative hub by 2030 with the launch of the Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo (MPEx), a five-day national event celebrating Filipino innovation, artistry, and cultural talent.
Held at SMX Aura in Taguig City, MPEx officially kicks off the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) and marks a historic first: an event that brings together all nine creative domains and their 73 diverse sectors under one roof. These domains include:
- Audiovisual media
- Visual arts
- Digital interactive media
- Design
- Performing arts
- Publishing
- Traditional cultural expressions
- Creative services
- Cultural sites
DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque led the opening ceremony, underscoring the agency’s commitment to supporting local creatives and empowering Filipino talent on the global stage.
“Under the clear directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DTI is fully committed to harnessing the power of our creative industries,” Roque shared. “We will continue building the support systems and platforms, like MPEx, that our artists and creators need to thrive and be recognized worldwide.”
MPEx offers visitors an immersive creative experience through dedicated pavilions for each domain, showcasing everything from paintings and sculptures to comics, animation, and original Filipino publications.
One of the event’s standout features is Malikhaing Pinoy Chats, a series of engaging talks and forums where industry experts, aspiring creatives, and policymakers come together to share ideas, trends, and opportunities across sectors.
Another highlight is Creative Matchmaking for Filipino Games, a platform where indie and student game developers pitch their projects to key industry leaders and investors. One title, "Dungeon King of Midnight Equinox," stole the spotlight, winning the Best Game Pitch Award.
Collaboration Across Creative Industries
MPEx brings together a powerhouse lineup of exhibitors and partner organizations, including:
- Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP)
- Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP)
- Design Center of the Philippines
- Philippine Fashion Coalition
- Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)
- Ayala Museum
Each group plays a vital role in showcasing the breadth and depth of Filipino creative excellence—from fashion and design to performing arts and heritage preservation.
Championing the Future of Filipino Creativity
The Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo is part of the broader Malikhaing Pinoy Program, led by DTI and the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council (PCIDC). The initiative aims to develop the country’s creative economy, generate jobs, and boost global competitiveness by spotlighting world-class Filipino talent.
