P&G Safeguard Observes Global Handwashing Day by Partnering with Taguig City Schools to Promote Hygiene Awareness
Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines, the maker of trusted antibacterial soap Safeguard, celebrated Global Handwashing Day by inaugurating new handwashing stations at schools in Taguig City.
This annual event aims to raise awareness about the vital role of handwashing with soap as a simple, cost-effective, and essential method for preventing diseases and saving lives.Promoting Hygiene Through the SafeWASH in Schools Program
The initiative is part of P&G Safeguard’s “SafeWASH in Schools” program, developed in collaboration with the Manila Water Foundation. This program focuses on instilling good hygiene practices among students and teachers, helping to protect them from germs and viruses while at school. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), regular handwashing with soap is crucial for better health, as clean hands are fundamental in preventing the spread of infections and harmful germs.
Expanding Access to Hygiene Resources
Previously, P&G Safeguard donated handwashing stations to 285 schools across the National Capital Region and Rizal Province. The latest stations are constructed from eco-bricks, innovative building materials made from recycled plastic waste, further emphasizing Safeguard's commitment to sustainability.
Dr. Alejandro Ibañez, School Division Superintendent of Taguig City and Pateros, expressed his gratitude for P&G and Safeguard’s dedication to enhancing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiatives in schools. He stated, “We thank P&G and Safeguard for their continued support in providing schools with handwashing stations and promoting WASH. These facilities will effectively increase awareness of the importance of handwashing with soap and clean water to prevent communicable diseases.”
Student Perspectives on the Initiative
Nichelle, a 15-year-old student from Taguig National High School, shared her excitement: “The new handwashing station from P&G and Safeguard is helpful for us. It reminds me and my classmates to wash our hands regularly, keeping our school a healthier place to learn and play together.”
A Commitment to Health and Hygiene
For over three decades, Safeguard has been promoting health and hygiene across the Philippines. By supporting Global Handwashing Day, Safeguard and its partners aim to equip schools and communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect themselves from germs daily.
