SM Supermalls and DICT Launch Digital Corners to Boost Job Readiness and Digital Skills

SM Supermalls and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have taken a major step toward strengthening digital readiness among Filipino youth with the launch of Digital Corners in SM Job Fairs.

The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by DICT Secretary Henry Aguda and SM Supermalls Vice President for Mall Operations Junias Eusebio, who also sealed their shared commitment through the Pledge of Commitment Wall.

The launch took place during the J.O.B.S. Immersion for SHS 2025 at the Skydome in SM City North EDSA, marking a new chapter in accessible, tech-driven learning for Filipino job seekers and Senior High School students.

A Free Digital Upskilling Hub Inside SM Job Fairs

Digital Corners serve as open-access learning hubs inside SM job fair venues. They offer free training on essential digital skills including:

  • Digital literacy
  • Python programming
  • Google Career Certificate courses
  • Basic networking
  • Coding and cybersecurity
  • Online entrepreneurship

These hubs aim to strengthen the capabilities of job seekers and SHS students preparing to enter an increasingly tech-powered workforce.

“This is the next step in our collective efforts to not only match jobs with job seekers but to equip them with future-ready digital skills,” said Junias M. Eusebio. “By bringing this initiative to SM malls, we’re turning job fairs into job-and-learning fairs where opportunity meets capability.”

SM Supermalls expects the Digital Corner initiative to benefit thousands of Filipinos every year.

SHS Students Take Center Stage in Digital Empowerment

Nearly 1,000 SHS students from more than 40 schools, along with parents and teachers, joined the launch of the J.O.B.S. Immersion for SHS 2025 and the rollout of the Enhanced Work Immersion Pilot (EWIP). This program is a collaboration between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), with SM Supermalls and SM Retail serving as key partners.

The EWIP elevates the SHS experience by expanding work immersion hours from 80–320 to 420–640 hours. The extended hours are paired with industry-developed training plans that help students gain real-world skills in sectors such as retail, hospitality, and technology.

Throughout the event, students explored interactive booths from DICT and various private partners, allowing them to learn about career paths, digital upskilling, and opportunities in the growing digital economy. Companies like SM Retail and Newport World Resorts also provided firsthand insights into workplace values and job expectations, while industry leaders shared guidance during the SHS Immersion Talks.

SM Malls Continue to Champion Filipino Talent

As SM Supermalls celebrates 40 Super Years of evolving with the needs of the Filipino community, it remains a dedicated partner in creating pathways to employment and inclusive growth. With job fairs hosted in 88 malls nationwide, SM continues to open doors for job seekers, connect them with employers, and support capability-building through programs like the Digital Corner.

More than a retail destination, SM has grown into a nationwide hub for opportunity—empowering students, job seekers, and communities through partnerships that strengthen the country’s workforce and fuel long-term development.
