Healthy And Easy Baon Recipe Using US Potatoes

I love potatoes!
I guess, eating a baked or roasted potato for a snack instead of chips or sweets has become a huge factor in allowing myself to stay fit, that is why I adore them dearly.
Gobbling on rice used to messed up the hormones in the body so I needed to find a snack that would be filling enough but way healthier, pronto!
Frankly speaking, potatoes weren't that appealing to me back in the day. I thank my mom, she made me love potatoes which has been the key to my staying fit achievement. I used to put a lot of toppings like toasted bacon and stuff but that doesn't work, really. Now, I put herbs and spices, less on the toppings--my kids love it!

Speaking of kids, when you got picky eaters and it's almost a challenge to manage the meal time and their baon, you need to create and make the food appealing and tasty to them to lessen the struggle. Like for me, one of my daughters prefer tastier food, so I use various herbs and spices on the food without the fear of making them unhealthy. I also fill the nutritional gaps serving not only the best quality vegetables and fruits, but providing them healthy school snacks, too.
I include US Potatoes on their baon, a staple to our family meals, as they are excellent source of vitamin C, a good source of potassium (more than a banana), vitamin B6, and is naturally fat, sodium, and cholesterol free.
US Potatoes also contain a variety of phytonutrients that have antioxidant activity. Among these important health-promoting compounds are carotenoids, flavonoids, and caffeic acid, as well as unique tuber storage proteins, such as patatin, which exhibit activity against free radicals.
I also make sure to include my kids in preparing their baon while letting them know about the components of the food they will eat. It always works. I provide them nutritional details the US Potatoes contain like the one below :

Vitamin C

  • Potatoes contain 45% vitamin C, which is more than one medium tomato (40%) or sweet potato (30%). Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as anantioxidant stabilizing free radicals, thus helping prevent cellular damage. It aids in collagen production; assists with iron absorption; and helps heal wounds and keep your gums healthy. Vitamin C may help support the body’s immune system.

Fiber

  • One medium potato with skin contributes 2 grams of fiber of 8% of the daily value per serving.
  • Dietary fiber is a complex carbohydrate and is the part of the plant material that cannot be digested and absorbed in the bloodstream. Soluble fiber may help with weight loss as it makes you feel full longer, and research has shown it also may help lower blood cholesterol.

Vitamin B6

  • Potatoes are a good source of vitamin B6 with one medium potato providing 10% of the recommended daily value.
  • Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays important roles in carbohydrate and protein metabolism. It helps the body make nonessential amino acidsneeded to make various body proteins; it is a cofactor for several co-enzymes involved in energy metabolism; and is required for the synthesis of hemoglobin –an essential component of red blood cells.

Iron

  • One medium potato provides 6% of the recommended daily value of iron.

Potassium

  • One medium potato with skin provides 620 milligrams or 18% of the recommended daily value (DV) of potassium per serving and is considered one of the best foods with potassium.
  • Potatoes rank highest for foods with potassium and are among the top 20 most frequently consumed raw vegetables and fruits.

My 3 went back to school last week, and everyone's attending school all day long for this year. Good thing US Potatoes are more energy-packed, a great substitute for sugary drinks and food. Plus, there's a potato option to fuel the body and brain –definitely the perfect snack to keep them bustling with energy throughout the school day. Yey!
I'm preparing this super easy dish tomorrow for their baon that might be worth sharing to you. Your kids may not agree on your slightly different approach on their baon but it's a start, right?

US Potatoes are available at selected SM Supermarkets, Rustans Supermarkets, Shopwise, Pioneer Center Supermarket, and Duty Free Philippines.
