How to Eat Happy and Stay Healthy with Metamucil Fiber Drink
It’s really hard to stay healthy nowadays, especially with our busy schedules and fast-paced lifestyles.
Most of the time, we turn to food for comfort, stress relief, or as a reward. Unfortunately, this kind of eating habit doesn’t really solve anything, it often makes us feel worse and can even lead to overeating and weight gain.
Recently, Procter & Gamble introduced a wellness product designed to be a helpful food companion that supports better health without unwanted side effects. It allows you to enjoy your meals while helping you maintain balance in your daily fiber intake.
This product is called Metamucil, and it supports your journey toward better health. The name is inspired by “metabolism,” and it helps you meet your daily fiber needs.
So first, what does fiber do?
Fiber helps cleanse the digestive system. Dietary fiber has been shown to help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels, which may contribute to reducing the risk of certain chronic lifestyle-related diseases.
The local recommendation is 20 to 25 grams of fiber daily, which we usually get from whole grain cereals, beans, fruits, and vegetables. However, there is such a thing as too much fiber, and as we know, excess intake may cause discomfort such as gas and bloating due to fermentation in the gut.
This is where Metamucil comes in, providing a more measured way to support daily fiber intake for adults.
Metamucil, the world’s number one selling fiber supplement, has been in the market for over 83 years in countries like the United States, Canada, and Australia. With the Philippines known as a top destination for great food and big appetites, it’s no surprise that it has become a key market in Southeast Asia.
Dr. Gloria Cheng, senior scientist in research and development for personal healthcare in Asia, introduced Metamucil and highlighted its importance in daily wellness.
Metamucil comes in two variants: Orange Smooth and Wild Berry Smooth.
Both contain naturally sourced psyllium fiber. While psyllium is known for its health benefits, it is not always pleasant in taste on its own. In fact, unflavored psyllium drinks are often described as having an unpleasant texture and taste. That is why the product was developed with consumer preferences in mind, offering a more enjoyable drinking experience.
Psyllium is a rich source of both soluble and insoluble fiber and has a unique gel-forming property when mixed with liquid. The psyllium husk fiber in Metamucil helps trap waste and support its removal from the body. It also slows digestion and absorption, helping promote a feeling of fullness.
Each serving provides 3.4g of fiber and is both sugar-free and gluten-free.
The name Metamucil comes from “meta,” meaning change, and “mucilage,” which refers to the gel-forming fiber derived from psyllium.
Here is a simple illustration of how Metamucil works inside the body.

The oil represents our daily food intake, while the bottle filled with water represents the body.
When oil is combined with water, you can see it begin to stick to the inner walls of the bottle.
However, when 1½ teaspoons of Metamucil are added to 250 ml of water with oil, the mixture begins to change in appearance due to the psyllium content. It forms a viscous, soluble gel that thickens and eventually helps trap the oil within the mixture.

It forms a gentle, soft gel inside the body that supports smoother bowel movement and helps carry waste out of the digestive system.
The Metamucil mixture has effectively absorbed the oil from the bottle, demonstrating how psyllium fiber works in the body.
It’s truly never too late to start living a healthier lifestyle. Metamucil can help support your wellness journey, and it comes in a pleasant-tasting form that makes daily fiber intake more convenient.
To enjoy Metamucil, simply add 5.8 grams (about 1½ teaspoons) to at least 250 ml of water. Stir briskly and drink immediately. It is also important to drink plenty of water afterward.
Any time of day is suitable for taking Metamucil, as long as you maintain adequate fluid intake. However, if you are using it to help manage hunger between meals, it is best taken before eating. You may take it once to three times a day, depending on your needs.
Metamucil is priced at ₱760 per jar, good for approximately 48 doses, which comes out to about ₱16 per serving.
