Visa Unveils AI-Powered Payment Innovations to Transform Digital Commerce in the Philippines
Visa introduces cutting-edge AI payment solutions and partnerships to enhance security, flexibility, and financial inclusion in the Philippines.
Visa, a global leader in digital payments, has introduced a new suite of AI-powered solutions aimed at accelerating the growth of the Philippines’ digital economy. With 50 percent of the country’s retail payments now digitized, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Visa is helping to drive the next phase of secure, seamless, and scalable commerce.
AI at the Core of Visa’s Payment Innovation
Visa has invested over $3 billion in AI and data infrastructure, enabling trusted, real-time payment experiences for consumers and businesses. These AI capabilities power secure transactions and support what Visa calls "agentic commerce," where AI agents transact on behalf of users.
“The growing digital payments landscape in the Philippines is ideal for AI-driven solutions that enhance consumer and business experiences,” said Jeffrey Navarro, Country Manager for Visa Philippines.
Visa Intelligent Commerce: Powering the Next Generation of AI Transactions
Visa Intelligent Commerce is a new initiative that provides APIs and commercial tools for developers building AI-driven commerce platforms. Visa is working with regional leaders including Ant International, Grab, and Tencent to create secure, automated, and scalable shopping experiences.
- Ant International specializes in global digital finance and payment services.
- Grab operates Southeast Asia’s leading super app for transportation, delivery, and financial services.
- Tencent is a global tech leader and the developer of WeChat.
- Enhancing Everyday Digital Experiences in the Philippines
Visa envisions AI integrating seamlessly into daily life, automating tasks like meal ordering, travel booking, and personalized shopping.
“With Visa’s trusted infrastructure, these experiences are not only possible, but now within reach for consumers in the Philippines,” said Poojyata Khattar, Head of Product for Regional Southeast Asia at Visa.
Expanding Access for Filipino Businesses
Visa is rolling out several services to support local businesses and promote financial inclusion:
- Visa Pay connects any participating wallet to any Visa-accepting merchant globally. In the Philippines, Maya is among the partners helping expand access.
- Digital Identity Solutions, including Passkeys and Tap to Confirm, streamline authentication and reduce fraud using enhanced data and AI-based security.
- Visa Accept enables micro-entrepreneurs to accept contactless payments via NFC-enabled smartphones, without the need for payment terminals.
Flexible Payment Solutions for a Digital-First Generation
To meet the needs of Millennials and Gen Z, Visa is expanding its digital product offerings:
Flex Credential lets users switch between debit, credit, and rewards on a single card. Originally launched in Japan with SMBC and SMCC (as the Olive card), Flex now supports both personal and business use and is set to launch in Vietnam.
Embracing Stablecoins and Tokenized Payments
Visa is deepening its work with stablecoins, supporting on- and off-ramps via Visa-backed cards. In Asia Pacific, Visa is collaborating with DCS Singapore, DTC Pay, and StraitsX to enable stablecoin payments through regulated platforms. To date, Visa has processed over $225 million in stablecoin settlements.
Visa’s Tokenized Asset Platform (VTAP) supports the issuance and management of fiat-backed tokens, enabling programmable payments, asset trading, and cross-border transfers across blockchain networks. VTAP will expand to more partners through 2025.
Advancing Commerce Through Local Collaboration
“We’re committed to bringing global innovations to the Philippines by working with local banks, acquirers, merchants, and government partners,” said Navarro. “Together, we can create real impact and move the country forward in the digital payments space.”
With its robust infrastructure and trusted global network, Visa is positioned to lead the Philippines and Asia Pacific into the future of AI-powered commerce.
