My WAFU Izakaya Festival Fun Night

3:40 PM

"You know how to drive in rain
And you decided not to make a change
Stuck in the same old lane
Going the wrong way home

I feel like my heart is stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic,
I'm under pressure
Cause I can't have you the way that I want
Let's just go back to the way it was.."

You know that feeling when you’re stuck for almost 4 hours along EDSA because of-- I don't know--maybe there was an alien abduction and cars were left behind plus your gas gauge says empty and you're hungry and you’re totally late to your next event?
It's stressful!
You’re not going to make it on time no matter how much de-stressing and singing you do.
Thankfully i was headed to a food affair that let us experience a whole new way of enjoying Japanese food with the launch of the Wafu Izakaya Festival!
What stress?

Strategically , Wafu Japanese Restaurant is located at the heart of the shopping/restaurant strip in Greenhills, that boasts luxurious interior with a lively outdoor atmosphere of both traditional and modernized Japanese feel to it.
The next time you are in the mood for a night out with friends, the informal setting  and popular Japanese bar will skyrocket the mood even more.
The Izakaya experience is very much a part of local Japanese culture.
It is typically noisy, informal but fun!
A casual setup of wooden tables and chairs that provide pub goers with comfortable seating will complement the food carts and booths where chefs prepare your order in front of you.
During it's dinner service, Wafu will transform the area outside into an open-air Izakaya. All food items such as yakitori, kushiage , kushiyage , sushi and sashimi are prepared as you order hence hot comfort food in the tummy!
The Pub Fare at the Festival is best paired with either a bottle of cold Asahi beer or Sake.
As in any Izakaya, they are reasonably priced and portions are smaller but filling.
Diners can choose from a selection of plates of sushi and sashimi, maki, tempura, grilled (Yakitori ) and deep-fried items and other Japanese specialties.
Items are conviniently prices at 120, 150 or 180 , so, paying up after a few rounds of drinks with your friends will be easy.
For instance, Kushiyaki is not your typical barbecue. Skewers of meat, seafood or vegetables are grilled plain and seasoned with salt or your choice of sauce before being served to you. While kushiage has a heavier batter than tempura making it a more filling snack-on-a-stick.
Kushiyaki choices include chicken meat (breast, thigh, liver or tail), pork belly, shiitake mushroom, beef tenderloin and salmon belly. Of the kushiage items, try the skewers of chicken, pork belly, prawns, scallops, zucchini and quail eggs.
To up the fun, other popular traditional fare are also served as Wafu Izakaya. Okonomiyaki, or Japanese-style cabbage and meat pancakes, is also available, as well as gyoza, tofu steak and barbecues of grouper, snapper and salmon jaws.

I am not a Sake drinker but tried the Asahi beer as recommended; good choice-- but opted for their Bai water after.
Very much enjoyed my experience at Wafu Japanese Restaurant and would definitely repeat.
Great place to chill out, drink and have some good food.
Wafu Izakaya Festival is from 6 p.m. onwards.
