Red Turnip Theater Announces Season Two of Rabbit Hole

Unless you live around the Makati area, it’s likely you’ve never heard of Whitespace. I certainly hadn’t, until a blogger friend invited me last Monday, June 16, to a press conference at 2nd’s, Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City for Rabbit Hole, a 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire, presented by Red Turnip Theater and sponsored by Fila Philippines.

Composed of five bold and daring actors, Ana Abad Santos, Topper Fabregas, Jenny Jamora, Cris Villonco, and Rem Zamora, they return with a powerful lineup, bringing fresh energy to the stage. The company aims to introduce a maiden season that reintroduces Filipino audiences to straight plays while putting their own distinctive stamp on the theatrical experience.

For their first season, they staged Closer by Patrick Marber, a 1999 Tony Award-nominated play, and Cock by Mike Bartlett, which will return this coming October so watch out for it.

Rabbit Hole, as they say, is both funny and heartbreaking, basically everything you want in a theatrical experience. It tells the story of an American couple who lose their son in an accident, and explores the “what ifs” that continue to haunt their lives.

At its core, it is about heartbreak, grief, and the struggle to cope with loss, the very reality many of us face. It charts a bittersweet search for a path that leads back into the light of day, making it a powerful showcase for a strong ensemble cast.

Although the language for this season differs slightly from the first, the emotional journey remains just as intense, offering a more immersive, conversational, and in-your-face theatrical experience.

The more bombastic approach was felt in Season 1, with each production carrying distinct individual identities. In contrast, Rabbit Hole and the second-season play Time Stands Still lean more toward themes of home and family.

Rabbit Hole stars Agot Isidro, Michael Williams, Che Ramos-Cosio, Sheila Francisco, and Ross Pesigan. It opens on August 1 and runs throughout the weekends of the month, directed by Topper Fabregas.
