My Lunch With Cindy Lotuaco-Ejercito

Honestly, I abhor "politics".
And when I say that, I meant I don't really understand it. I usually stayed home on voting days since the date also falls on my birthday. Hypocrisy at its finest, especially in this election. Heard a lot of them talk about politics through biblical principles, when in reality there is no consistent action. The hopefuls are actually liars in suits when it comes to the welfare of the country. I don't get it. People still want to check those boxes despite the immoral activities and background of the runner.
A few weeks ago though, I got to sit by the former senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito's wife, the gorgeous Hyacinth "Cindy" Lotuaco-Ejercito with other media friends. Little did you know, Madam Cindy, a former Cathay Pacific flight attendant, has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer sometime ago. Instead of running away from her fears, she faced it bravely together with sir JV, through medical missions for women, offering free pre-natal check up, post natal & OB check up for women's concerns, ultrasound, breast examination, and cervical cancer screening. Various medicines and vitamins for women were also distributed the entire time.

Madam Cindy's ordeal made JV realize how difficult it is to have cancer. Talk about the financial burden and distress of the patients. From there, a legislative proposal was sent to the senate and earned the nickname “Mr. Healthcare” for spearheading not only the the Universal Health Care law, but also making the National Integrated Cancer Control Act measure into a Republic Act No. 11215.
It was Ejercito who managed to restore the P15-billion HFEP funds in the budget bill, which had been removed earlier by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The act would address the various gaps in the cancer care continuum and integrated solutions.

He said it mandates a more focused prevention and integrated cancer program that would improve the survivorship of cancer patients, noting that the dreaded illness is the third leading cause of adult death and fourth in child mortality.

The Philippine Cancer Facts and Estimates from the Department of Health has revealed an alarming increase in the incidence of cancer, estimating up to 8 deaths per day for childhood cancer and up to 11 new cases and 7 deaths every hour for adult cancer.

This computes to a figure of approximately 110,000 new cancer cases and over 66,000 cancer deaths each year.

Ejercito, chairman of the Senate health committee, said he would file a bill, if reelected, for the construction and operation of regional "specialty hospitals" like the Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, and National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), which are all located in Metro Manila.

I don’t have a dog in the fight. But I would like someone who would willingly address the healthcare of the nation.
So, here's me pondering. While there's still a fair share of corrupt, dishonest monsters in the government, I firmly believe that there are still kind and decent ones who are into politics, who want try to make a difference in the world.
"Live Life Without Regrets."
Madam Cindy's words, which are also ideal for the election season.

"Appoint someone with an unconditional love for their country and knowledge of its history. In times of discontent, they seek solutions. In times of trouble, they offer hope and leadership. In times of peace, they offer innovation and encourage success. In fact, one might contend they lead us in a direction we may not want to go but need to be." The Senator's Wife.

Choose Without Regrets. Choose The Good One.
