SariCycle® Reaches Major Milestone: Celebrating Six Months of Success
Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC), alongside Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies (BEST) and the Quezon City Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (QC CCESD), proudly marks the six-month milestone of the SariCycle® Program.
Launched in January 2024, this innovative initiative has engaged over 600 active participants and successfully collected over 4,000 kilograms of single-use plastics (SUPs).SariCycle® aims to address the growing challenge of plastic waste by focusing on the collection and recycling of single-use plastics within local communities, particularly around sari-sari stores in Quezon City. Participants, known as "SariCyclers," receive incentives such as special product bundles from Ajinomoto Philippines and Environmental Points (EPs) redeemable at partner vendors.
Key beneficiaries of the program include participants from Quezon City’s livelihood initiatives, such as the “Tindahan ni Mayor Joy” program and individuals with disabilities. Their collective efforts have significantly advanced environmental responsibility and awareness in the community.
At the six-month evaluation meeting held at QC CCESD, representatives from APC, BEST, and QC CCESD, led by Ms. Andrea Villaroman, discussed the program's achievements and upcoming challenges. APC’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Ernie Carlos, expressed gratitude for the community's support and emphasized the vital collaboration between public and private sectors.
“The SariCycle® Program demonstrates the impactful results we can achieve for our environment when we unite for sustainability,” Carlos stated.
In recognition of Ajinomoto Philippines' commitment to environmental initiatives, the company was honored at BEST’s 25th Anniversary celebration on September 16, 2024, where they received a plaque of appreciation. APC’s Sustainability Executive, Kirstoff Buyoc, accepted the award and recognized top-performing SariCyclers during the event.
The celebration also featured notable figures in the Circular Economy movement, including Senator Cynthia Villar, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainability goals.
Ajinomoto Philippines remains dedicated to responsible consumption and environmental stewardship, looking forward to expanding the SariCycle® Program and furthering its commitment to a sustainable future aligned with the “Eat Well, Live Well” lifestyle.
