SM Mobilizes Relief Efforts for Communities Affected by Typhoon
In the aftermath of Typhoon 'Kristine,' SM Supermalls and SM Foundation Inc. launched immediate relief operations through their Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) program in the hardest-hit areas of Caloocan, Malabon, and Valenzuela.
In Caloocan and Malabon, dedicated volunteers from SM City Grand Central, SM Center Sangandaan, and SM Savemore Malabon distributed truckloads of “kalinga packs,” which included rice, canned goods, noodles, and bottled water. These efforts concentrated on severely affected barangays, such as Brgy. 35 Maypajo and Brgy. 2 Sangandaan in Caloocan, as well as Brgy. Tinajeros in Malabon City. Thanks to collaboration with local rescue teams, 850 families received vital support, addressing critical needs in areas experiencing significant displacement.
In Valenzuela, SM City Valenzuela implemented an innovative door-to-door distribution method in Brgy. Viente Reales. Volunteers personally visited homes, ensuring that families unable to access relief centers received essential supplies. This personalized approach benefited 200 families directly.
The kalinga pack distribution is part of the broader Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) initiative, a social program by the SM Foundation, in partnership with SM Supermalls and SM Markets. OPTE focuses on meeting community needs during disasters and crises, with seamless coordination between SM Supermalls employees and volunteers.
