Women Run the World in Globe-Trotting Spy Action Flick 'The 355', Premiering Today on Lionsgate Play
The stakes are high in The 355, a fast-paced, globe-trotting espionage thriller that brings together a powerful cast of women to save the world from a global disaster. Premiering today, January 31, 2025, on Lionsgate Play, this action-packed movie is set to deliver the heart-pounding suspense fans crave.
What happens when four powerhouse actresses team up for a high-stakes spy mission? You get The 355, an electrifying adventure that follows a team of international agents racing against time to stop a top-secret weapon from falling into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, these fierce women must set aside their differences and work together to prevent World War III.
In The 355, CIA operative Mace (Jessica Chastain) is assigned to retrieve a dangerous flash drive capable of hacking into any computer with a single keystroke. She recruits the help of retired MI6 operative Khadijah Adiyeme (Lupita Nyong’o), but the mission quickly escalates when two other agents join the fray. Graciela Rivera (Penélope Cruz), a DNI agent and psychologist, and Marie Schmidt (Diane Kruger), a German BND operative, both have their own interests in securing the weapon for their respective agencies. With a mix of rivalries, personal conflicts, and high-octane action, the women must join forces to prevent a deadly weapon from being unleashed.
Directed by Simon Kinberg, The 355 blends traditional spy genre tropes with a refreshing new twist, showcasing a female ensemble that takes the lead. In an exclusive interview, Jessica Chastain, who also produced the film, shared her excitement about the project, explaining, “What excited me most was the fact that the actresses are all the bosses of the film. We raised the money on our own, developed the script together, and are truly the owners of this project.”
The 355 is an original concept born out of Chastain’s vision, and it’s a rare chance to see women in the lead roles of an action-thriller. The film was produced independently, without the backing of a major studio, making it a groundbreaking project for female-driven cinema.
Director Simon Kinberg, known for his work on films like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, was drawn to the project because of his love for spy films. He told CBR, “The 355 is a different kind of spy movie, but it is a love letter to spy movies. It’s thrilling to bring a female ensemble to the genre because, quite honestly, there aren’t many spy films like this.”
If you're a fan of edge-of-your-seat action, high-stakes espionage, and fierce female leads, don’t miss The 355, now available to stream on Lionsgate Play. Get ready for an exhilarating ride with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars as they take on a mission to save the world.
