Intramuros Summer Festival 2025: A Celebration for Families, Culture, and Community
When my children were younger, Intramuros was one of our favorite places to visit.
We would walk along the old brick streets, take pictures near the stone walls, and enjoy a simple meal or Filipino street foods after exploring Fort Santiago. Those visits became quiet family memories—small moments that still feel special today. Now that they are older, busy with school and their own hobbies, we don’t go as often. But this summer, Intramuros is giving families like mine a good reason to return. On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the Intramuros Administration (IA) will hold the very first Intramuros Summer Festival, a full-day event filled with activities, culture, music, and community spirit.
Earlier today, I had the chance to attend the press preview of what’s shaping up to be one of this summer’s most exciting events. And yes—I even got to ride a tranvia. You can ride one too this Saturday as part of the activities.
This festival marks IA’s 46th anniversary, and it’s more than just a celebration. It’s a way of showing that Intramuros is still a place for families, learners, and visitors to explore and enjoy—whether for the first time or all over again.
What to Expect at the Festival
The festival runs from morning until night and offers something for everyone—young or old, local or tourist.
Start the Day with Movement and Color
The celebration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a fun and energizing Zumba session at Plaza Moriones, led by well-known fitness coaches Jim and Toni Saret.
From 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., enjoy a parade filled with students wearing colorful traditional and creative Filipino costumes. It’s a lively sight that children and adults alike will enjoy.
Alongside this, from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, a medical mission by the University of Santo Tomas Health Service will offer free health checkups and dental services for the community.
Afternoon for Families and Story Lovers
For families with younger children, Centro de Turismo Intramuros will host storytelling sessions at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. with Ate Posh from Ang Pinoy Storytellers. These stories, based on Filipino folklore, teach important values while keeping young minds engaged.
Nearby at Casa Manila, guests can experience history firsthand through live reenactments at 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. The actors will perform scenes from the Spanish colonial period, making history come alive for visitors.
Evening Concert for Everyone
The day will end with the Sinag Concert from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Plaza Moriones. This special concert will feature popular bands like Itchyworms, Over October, and Earl Agustin. Talented students from schools in Intramuros will also perform, while Boobay and Sephy Francisco host the event.
Even if your children have outgrown playgrounds, there’s something timeless about listening to live music together under the night sky.
Taste and Shop Local
All day long, guests can enjoy a pop-up market along Gen. Luna Street, Fort Santiago, and the Riverwalk. The market will offer local food, crafts, and souvenirs from different parts of the Philippines—perfect for discovering new flavors or finding a gift to take home.
Explore More with the Intramuros Passport
Another exciting part of the festival is the launch of the Intramuros Passport. For ₱350, this passport gives access to five of Intramuros’ main attractions:
- Fort Santiago
- Baluarte de San Diego
- Casa Manila
- Museo de Intramuros
- Centro de Turismo Intramuros
It’s a fun and meaningful way to encourage more people to explore the history of the Walled City while supporting its care and preservation.
A Full Year of Events Ahead
The Summer Festival is only the beginning. IA has planned more events throughout the year, including:
- Grand Santacruzan in May, with Miss Universe Asia Pacific Chelsea Manalo
- Likha Fair in June, led by the Office of the First Lady
- Fiesta de Intramuros in September
- Regular activities like Dalaw at Sayaw cultural shows, Centro Entablado theater performances, and Pasyal Aral educational tours will also continue.
A Special Place for Old and New Memories
As a mother, I’ve watched how quickly time moves. But some places, like Intramuros, stay meaningful no matter how much life changes. This festival is a reminder that even as our children grow, there are still places where families can come together and make new memories.
So whether you’re returning to Intramuros after many years or planning your first visit, the Intramuros Summer Festival 2025 is the perfect time to experience its charm all over again.
