November 15 is the First Ever World Cord Blood Day

Certainly a momentous and fun event, most especially for the guest celebrity moms who are Cordlife advocates - celebrating the first ever World Cord Blood Day, raising awareness on the importance of cord blood banking in the Philippines.
The highlight of the celebrations is a ceremonial pact between Cordlife Philippines, its partners and its celebrity brand ambassadors including Vanessa Matsunaga, Nina Corpuz and host Dimples Romana to work hand in hand to promote and spread awareness of about cord blood and cordblood banking.
We will all be part of a global celebration not only to raise awareness but to educate more people to cordblood - its significance and value in our lives and in the lives of our children and families.

World Cord Blood Day gives us an opportunity to drive this message across, that cordblood is important as an available standard treatment for families who may need stem cell transplant, which means more lives can be saved.

In the years of publishing articles about cordblood banking and attending seminars like this, still many are not aware that cordblood banking is already available here in the Philippines.
In fact, most of the moms I know don't know about cordblood banking at all.

According to Dr. Valerie Guinto, President of the Phil. Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Cordblood banking is like getting an insurance. It is a choice for you if you want to plan the future ahead.
As we all know, some families are more at risk, that is why it is best to know about cordblood banking as it's already a standard treatment for treating most diseases.
This is not only for cancer of the blood like Leukemia, it is also being used for other blood problems like Anemia.
There's already a lot of clinical trials where stem cells are being used. One example is Alzheimer's.
You only got one chance to get the stem cells so we have to set our priorities and know which ones have to go first. Moms need to be equipped with the right investments for the family.

A significant event happened back in 1988 that changed the way we see our bodies and the birthing process. A cord blood stem cell transplant performed by Dr. Eliane Gluckman in France saved the life of a young boy who was lighting Fanconi Anemia.
Cord blood, a newfound and non-controversial source of stem cells, has since saved thousands of other children from dreaded diseases through 40,000 cord blood stem cell procedures performed to date. Yet, not everyone is aware of the need to preserve this valuable, vital resource. In fact, in 98% of childbirths, cord blood is thrown away as medical waste.
To date, there have been over 40,000 cord blood transplants worldwide and cord blood is now being used on a daily basis.

You won't have to worry about the fees as they they have various flexible payment schemes. One can pay 60,000 as an initial deposit and after that the customer can only pay 9,000 pesos annually as storage fee. This is for an 18-year plan with 4 years free storage.
Parents can also choose the basic cordblood package in which the mom has to pay 30,000 initially but can be divided to a better installment schemes. At the end of the day, the service is still the primary concern of families. Remember that you are paying as well for the facility that employs a state-of-the-art equipment for a guaranteed and good quality stem cell initial processing.

Dr Arvin Faundo, one of the leading experts in Stem Cell Transplantation in the Philippines, answered many questions about cordblood and cordblood banking and how it serves as a non-controversial source of valuable stem cells that can save the lives of children afflicted with various dreaded diseases.

Let's say if the mom has a certain medical condition, it's important to let them know every bit of information and medical history before the procedure.
You will be given important questions to answer and they explain everything to you. You will be then tested thoroughly for infectious diseases.
Because you want to be a Cordlife mom, doesn't necessarily mean that the storage facility of Cordlife will accept, unless it is legible for storage and the cordblood is healthy for responsibility purposes.
They follow certain international standard, so you have to remember that they just can't accept anyone.
They also have a certain cell count that they need to accept. Again, has to be free from certain infections.
Our country is proud to have the only world class facility which is located in Diliman, registered with the DOH and ABB. In case that stem cells stored here are needed to transport to other country, it's a good thing that the facility on the Philippines is accredited by the ABB. No complexities should arise because of that.

Happy World Cord Blood Day!
