BDO Foundation Reaches 200th RHU Milestone, Expanding Primary Health Care Access for Filipinos
At the heart of BDO Foundation’s mission is a commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos by ensuring access to quality health care.
This unwavering dedication has led to a remarkable milestone: the recent rehabilitation of the 200th Rural Health Unit (RHU) in the Philippines. The foundation marked this achievement with the turnover of the newly renovated Rural Health Unit of San Jose in Camarines Sur, a significant moment in their ongoing mission to support rural communities.
A Milestone for Health Care Access in the Philippines
The road to this milestone has been paved with years of hard work and compassion. BDO Foundation has consistently focused on upgrading RHUs across the country, with each newly rehabilitated facility symbolizing hope and better health care for thousands of Filipinos. The renovation of the RHU in San Jose is not just a structural upgrade, but a heartfelt commitment to ensure that health care services are more accessible to rural communities.
"For us, every RHU we turn over represents the countless Filipinos who will benefit from this facility," said Mario Deriquito, President of BDO Foundation. "We hope that through our efforts, we empower health workers to provide better care and that more patients gain access to essential health services."
A Renovated RHU Designed for All
The San Jose RHU is now a modern, one-story building that serves over 45,000 residents across 29 barangays. With careful attention to detail, BDO Foundation has renovated the facility to make it not only more comfortable but also more accessible. It’s designed to be inclusive, with features that cater to persons with disabilities, senior citizens, breastfeeding mothers, and elderly patients—ensuring everyone can receive the care they deserve.
The San Jose municipal health officer, Dr. Arnel Armea, expressed his gratitude: "This support empowers our health care personnel to perform their duties with dignity and ensure our community receives the care it deserves. With this renovated facility, there’s now space for everyone."
A First Line of Defense in Health Care
Rural Health Units are vital to a community’s well-being, often being the first point of contact for routine check-ups, immunizations, and preventive health care. The RHUs play a crucial role in managing public health and offering services that help maintain the wellness of the community. With this milestone, BDO Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening the health care delivery system at the grassroots level.
Looking Ahead: Expanding Health Care Access Across the Nation
As the foundation celebrates its 200th RHU, it remains focused on its goal to continue improving health care facilities in the Philippines. Through partnerships with local government units and BDO and BDO Network Bank branches, BDO Foundation is dedicated to uplifting more communities by upgrading their health centers.
"We will continue to support health care facilities that provide essential services to Filipinos, ensuring that every community, no matter how far, has access to better health care," said Deriquito.
After achieving this significant milestone, BDO Foundation reaffirms its mission to make health care more accessible to underserved communities and improve patient care nationwide. By renovating health centers like the RHU in San Jose, the foundation continues to foster a future where every Filipino can enjoy better health and well-being.
In the end, BDO Foundation’s work is not just about buildings and infrastructure—it's about the people whose lives are touched and improved through the availability of quality health care services. And with every new RHU, they take another step closer to making health care accessible to more Filipinos across the nation.
