SM Supermalls Lights Up the East Metro with Solar-Powered Innovation

6:24 PM

SM Supermalls is strengthening its commitment to sustainability as SM Cares leads the push for cleaner, greener energy across its properties.

In the East Metro, four malls, SM City Marikina, SM City Masinag, SM City San Mateo, and SM Center Antipolo Downtown, are now proudly powered by rooftop solar panel systems that boost energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and support the country’s shift to renewable energy.

Solar Power Shaping a Greener East Metro

Each East Metro mall plays a key role in SM’s long-term sustainability roadmap, generating clean energy that supports mall operations while helping protect the environment.

SM City Marikina, fully energized in 2023, produces an average of 106,179 kWh of solar energy each month with its 2.259 MWp system. This output can power 506 households, offset 74 tons of carbon emissions, or match the environmental impact of planting 3,378 mature trees.

SM City Masinag, set to be fully solar-powered by March 2025, generates around 124,366 kWh monthly through a 1.696 MWp system. This is equivalent to providing electricity to 592 homes, reducing 86 tons of CO₂, or planting 3,956 trees.

SM City San Mateo operates an 810 Solar PV System spread across 2,092 square meters of rooftop space, producing up to 0.45 megawatts of clean energy. This can supply power to 219 households and cut 32 tons of carbon emissions, comparable to planting 1,466 trees.

SM Center Antipolo Downtown, energized between 2024 and 2025, delivers 71,270 kWh of renewable power each month through its 0.923 MWp system, enough to energize 339 homes, offset 49 tons of CO₂, or equal the carbon absorption of 2,267 trees.

Building a Cleaner Future for Communities

SM Supermalls, through SM Cares and the SM Green Movement, continues to expand its environmental programs, integrating renewable energy, eco-friendly architecture, efficient water systems, and robust waste management across its network.

Together, these four East Metro malls generate nearly 348,000 kWh of clean energy every month, showcasing how sustainability and innovation can move communities forward.

With every panel installed and every kilowatt-hour produced, SM Supermalls reaffirms its commitment to progress, people, and the planet, keeping the East Metro powered by the sun.
