What’s Fresh? New Offerings from Slappy Cakes!

12:40 PM
If you are to visit Portland, Oregon in the future, I’m sure you won’t miss this popular all-day breakfast joint that has also become quite popular here in the Philippines, thanks to its “make-your-own-pancake” concept.

You can flip pancakes right at your table on built-in griddles while enjoying dishes made from scratch. The kids will love the hands-on setting where it’s perfectly okay for them to play with their food!

My family and I visited their Eastwood City branch last year, and my kids definitely had a blast flipping pancakes. They made letters and animals using the pancake batter served in an 8oz bottle flavored with buttermilk. The staff were accommodating and fast, even when the place was crowded.

Recently, I was invited to try the new offerings at Slappy Cakes SM Aura branch with other bloggers. I absolutely love the interior of this pancake house.

I’ve always believed that a restaurant’s interior plays a vital role in its overall experience. Here, they’ve created a design that feels rustic yet contemporary, and everything in between, very much my style for a kitchen as well. The vibe is similar to a country diner: warm, cozy, and inviting.

I especially love the booth seating, designed for comfort and privacy, creating a more intimate dining experience. The only downside for me was the lack of ambient music, a 60s to 70s soundtrack would have been a nice touch, in my opinion.

And yes, Slappy Cakes now offers the Pancake Sampler, which includes smaller servings of chocolate, peanut butter, and red velvet pancake batters (priced at ₱350), allowing diners to taste, cook, and play with more batter flavors in just one order!

When I became a mom, my creativity was unleashed. My life did an amazing 180-degree turn, but I’m truly grateful for my kids. I became one of them, happy-go-lucky.

They also offer more than just pancakes, of course. They serve a lineup of all-American burgers, which includes the Classic Burger, the Cheeseburger, and the Slappy Sliders.

We tried the Slappy Sliders, which come as a combination of three small but tasty hamburgers. How small, you ask? Well, they’re similar in size to the dinner rolls you buy at the grocery but of course, these sliders are the bomb!

If you want something not too heavy on the belly, the Potato Wedge Salad is a great choice. It has romaine lettuce and potato wedges tossed in a mayonnaise dressing, topped with bacon bits.

You definitely need to try this because it’s totally tasty and it’s my favorite!

Slappy Cakes also puts a twist on the classic scrambled egg with their Cheesy Chorizo Scramble. This dish is made with chorizo, onions, cheddar cheese, and eggs, topped with cilantro pesto and served with toast.

Havana Rice is a new addition to their menu. It features ground beef, plantain, and a sunny-side-up egg.

The Maple Glazed Pork Chop is served with red onion and rice. It has a slightly sweet and oily profile, which wasn’t quite my top choice, but don’t get me wrong, it’s still yummy.

There is also a surefire favorite, the Elvis, made with peanut butter, bacon, banana, and honey on sourdough bread.

One blogger told me that this was featured in the movie What If, so I think the King’s favorite is definitely a must-try.

They also serve Slappy Dinner Specials from 6 PM onwards.

Slappy Cakes also offers a 3-day summer workshop featuring DIY pancake design and various arts and crafts for the little darlings.

The Slappy Cakes Summer Camp will be held at SM Aura, SM North EDSA – The Block, and Eastwood Mall. Schedules per location may vary.
