What’s New: Check Out the Best Burgers at Burger Brewster in Lilac

If you live on the eastern side of Metro Manila, then you’ve probably already heard or read plenty about Lilac Street in Marikina.

Google it, and the results page will be filled with posts and reviews of great food and the best hangout spots, perfect for students and employees alike.

If you’re food-obsessed (like me) but don’t have much disposable income (also like me), the streets of Lilac are now bursting with small restaurants serving up affordable, incredible food for those with big appetites (again, like me). Recently, a group of foodies and I went around to discover the best of the best in Lilac.

There were absolutely no hesitations when I got invited to try one of the best burger spots in the area. I live nearby, so it wasn’t much of an effort to go there.

Burger Brewster in Lilac corner Kanlaon is a place that’s hidden in plain si, unless you know exactly what it is.

I’ve actually passed by this spot countless times at night, and I always thought it was just an ordinary burger house. Honestly, I’m not even a big burger fan, so it never made it to my food bucket list.

But destiny told me it was finally time to check it out.

The reviews don’t lie, people! Burger Brewster is truly a hidden gem, I can assure you.

I don’t even like burgers, but theirs tasted sooooo good. Make sure you come very hungry because their burgers are BIG… huge. They won’t fit in your mouth, and you’ll need both hands just to get a proper grip on them or you might even end up using a fork and knife instead.

They opened in October just last year, and despite not having any formal culinary training, it didn’t stop them from creating great food.

At first, it was just them and the Jucy Lucy burgers, but Tejal and Ivan came up with a great idea and eventually opened their very first burger house, Burger Brewster.

As you can see, the place is quite small, so the seating arrangement is very close to one another—intimate.

If you find yourself with an hour to kill in the neighborhood, there's picnic bench-like seating for some people watching and good conversation with friends under the stars.

We tried a variety of burgers here, but the most remarkable was the Jucy Lucy, priced at ₱195.

Seriously, try their bestseller, the Jucy Lucy and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. The price for this baby is surprisingly low for a patty that’s really good quality and fresh.

The Jucy Lucy features 100% pure premium beef patties with melted cheese in between. It’s cooked to a perfect medium-well and topped with pickle slices, caramelized onions, and garlic mayo.

I asked them if their buns were toasted with butter and indeed they were, which makes them extra tasty and yummier. That’s actually my own little secret when I toast bread at home. The kids love it.

So here’s the thing: they constantly remind you not to add anything like ketchup or mayo so you can fully enjoy the quality of the burgers. They want you to experience the pure taste of their burgers, no ketchup included. Got it? Good.

So, what’s the story behind the Jucy Lucy? They shared that it traces back to a foodie in Minnesota who wanted to elevate their burger experience to another level. That person created a burger patty with a melted cheese core, and after tasting it, reportedly kept exclaiming, “That’s one Jucy Lucy!”

The “Jucy” spelling, apparently, was just a typo from the print shop years ago and they never changed it.

This is the Shroom Zoom, my friend, priced at ₱140.

It’s a quarter pounder made with 100% pure premium beef. No, they don’t source their meat from a local meat shop or supermarket. The beef has a subtle sweetness to it when you taste it, and you can really tell it’s fresh, not frozen from the grocery.

It comes with a cheese slice, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and garlic mayo. The tomato, though, was a bit shy, it was hiding in there somewhere.

Since the place is meant for groupies and barkadas, they also have “to share” burgers, which are served in a skillet.

The one we tried was the Fil-Am Cross-Over, priced at ₱240. It’s a double quarter-pounder cheesy burger patty topped with chicken liver sisig and three cheese pops.

I’m not a fan of liver, so I immediately noticed it in the taste. It was a bit overpowering for me, but it’s still good, so no need to worry.

The crunchiness of the pops complemented the melted cheese inside, and overall, the taste was divine!

The Chick'NBerg is a quarter pounder with 100%  chicken meat patty with cheese slice, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions & garlic mayo.

For ₱125, you can enjoy this with the kids because of the chicken.

They won’t even mind the layers of healthy ingredients in there because of the chicken, I tell you.

Everything I’ve tasted here has never failed me.

Their homemade beefy fries, priced at ₱65, are basically classic fries seasoned with secret ingredients and topped with cheddar cheese sauce.

I’m not really a fan of cheddar cheese, I’d rather have plain fries with my soda. But I did enjoy the seasoning on the fries.

I wonder what the secret ingredients are?

And now I’m drooling.

Who doesn’t love vanilla ice cream? I think anything paired with vanilla ice cream instantly turns into something magical, just pure bliss for the taste buds!

This ice cream bun is delicious and priced at ₱65.

They also serve Brews and Beverages like this one..
For only p80, you'll have a cold mocha latte, just perfect for this kind of weather.

At Burger Brewster, they offer only premium, cooked-to-order, hand-molded patties to ensure the tastiest burgers.

With great variety and value, you’ll appreciate every single order that’s served in front of you. Give them a bit of time (10 to 20 minutes max) to prepare your burgers but I guarantee you, it’s worth the wait!
