Pru Life UK Brings the World Title Fight Live to Bantayan Island #ForEveryPinoyFighter

The first and only eight-division world boxing champion and representative of the Lone District of Sarangani, Safe Steps Ambassador Manny Pacquiao is still and will always be number one in the hearts of many, even though he was defeated in Sunday’s boxing match.

Spotted at the event were the Azkals for the Football for a Better Life program. Pru Life UK is also affiliated with the Azkals team, sponsoring football clinics for aspiring young kids (Little Azkals) to help develop football as a sport in the Philippines.

Thanks to Pru Life UK’s disaster and rehabilitation program, the Island of Bantayan witnessed, for the first time, the country’s boxing hero’s latest fight through a live public screening of the “Fight of the Century” in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, Northern Cebu.

They had been preparing for this for almost a month, distributing hundreds of thousands of “Go Manny” headbands all over the Philippines and of course, I wore mine the entire fight.

All municipalities of Bantayan Island came together for the first time to witness Pacman’s fight against Mayweather live last Sunday, May 3. The live screening in Bantayan drew nearly 8,000 locals.

Pru Life UK also brought live coverage of the Pacquiao–Mayweather fight to 10 communities across Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Quezon, Albay, Aklan, and Northern Samar. In Bantayan Island, the match was aired in the three municipalities of Santa Fe, Madridejos, and Bantayan.

The first-ever public screening in Bantayan Island was made possible by British life insurance company, Pru Life UK in support of every Filipino fighter from all walks of life. Continuing their commitment to restoring the community after typhoon Yolanda, they aim to inspire locals as they continue to fight to restore their livelihoods and communities.

Bantayan Island was one of the worst-hit islands in the country caused by the devastation of Super Typhoon Yolanda claiming the lives of more than 6,000 people.

After almost two years since the destruction, the island together with the affected provinces in the Central Visayas region is still recovering through the joint efforts of charitable organizations and Pru Life UK’s Prudence Foundation.

The Foundation has provided livelihood and rehabilitation support to the people of Bantayan Island over the past year, assisting almost 90% of the population with their essential needs.
“We know how hard it was for the Bantayan people to get back on their feet after losing almost everything,” said Antonio de Rosas, President and CEO of Pru Life UK.

“Pru Life UK and our charitable arm, Prudence Foundation, are committed to restoring the beauty of the island, especially for the locals who had to face tough battles in the past. This is why we wanted to bring the much-anticipated fight to the people of Bantayan Island. We strongly believe this will inspire them to fight against difficulties and succeed in making life better, just as they inspire us.”
