Jollibee Celebrates 117th Philippine Independence Anniversary in Kawit, Cavite

Where were you on the 12th of June?

For me, it was one of those extraordinary days.

The day was filled with joy as we went on a trip to the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, and took part in a one-of-a-kind patriotic experience with Jollibee. I finally had the chance to see the place where the Philippine flag was first hoisted and where the Marcha Nacional Filipina was played before Filipinos in 1898.

If you want to truly experience the spirit of Independence Day, the perfect place to visit is Kawit, Cavite, where it all began 117 years ago.

The June 12 program began with the opening speech delivered by Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative Leni Gerona Robredo, followed by the blowing of candles on a special giant birthday cake prepared by Jollibee.

Jollibee highlighted the commitment expressed by Filipinos and “Pinoys at heart” on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook using the hashtag #HappyBdayPilipinas, displayed on top of the cake.

To make the celebration even more meaningful, Jollibee also asked the question, “Anong gift mo sa Pilipinas?” as part of the launch of the Happy Birthday Pilipinas project, encouraging everyone to reflect on what they can give back to the country.

The country’s leading fast-food chain encouraged Filipino youth to express their commitment through social media and to take action through simple acts they can do for their country as their “gift” on its birthday.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to stay long enough to witness the grand fireworks display in the evening.

Often, we experience how sadness and joy intertwine every time Independence Day comes around.

We honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives while also celebrating the happiness of our freedom. It is a day we set aside to remember the people who gave everything to secure this privilege, the right to live freely.

No matter where or how you choose to celebrate Independence Day, make sure you do it with love, and with a bang. Enjoy the June 12 spirit, which is all about remembering the past while creating new memories for the future… with Jollibee.
