A Taste of North Luzon with Pilmico’s Mahaling Pagkaing Atin at Mercato Centrale | Food Event Experience

I had the privilege of living up north in early 2012.

I not only became familiar with the local people, but more importantly, my kids and I also got acquainted with their local delicacies and specialties.

I truly enjoyed living there, apart from the constant blackouts, of course. We loved having breakfast in a sunny yet cool spot, spending special days with my husband and kids, watching the children play sports, and planning getaways and swimming trips to stay active. While I was away from direct involvement in blogging events back home, I met new friends and discovered extraordinary experiences, which I considered a blessing.

I also had the privilege of attending a session with Metro Manila’s savviest foodies, TV personality and Mercato Centrale co-founder RJ Ledesma, and once again enjoyed delicacies from North Luzon at Mercato Centrale, hosted by Pilmico a few weeks ago.

We were given vouchers to shop for whatever we wanted. Chef Boy Logro was also present to share recipes cooked the Boy Logro way.

Mahalin Pagkaing Atin is Pilmico’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiative. The program has been traveling across the country to spread its advocacy. Mahalin Pagkaing Atin aims to promote the love of local food while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for backyard farmers.

These backyard farmers play an important role in nation building as they contribute to food security. Beyond promoting local food, the initiative also helps instill a deeper sense of pride in local place and produce.

The concept of Mercato Centrale was also born from a shared love of food. RJ Ledesma shared how he and his partners were inspired after experiencing food markets abroad, often brought by friends during their travels. He realized that there was still no dedicated place in the Philippines where people could go and enjoy a vibrant local food market experience.

This vision led to the creation of Mercato Centrale. The team fully supports Pilmico’s Mahalin Pagkaing Atin campaign because Mercato Centrale is made up of food entrepreneurs who are passionate about uplifting Filipino cuisine. As they say, Filipino food is the next best thing around the world.
Mahalin Pagkaing Atin continues to travel across the country to share this advocacy with more Filipinos. Everyone is encouraged to take part in supporting the local food industry by promoting and encouraging backyard farming.
