Pioneer Insurance Strengthens SME Cybersecurity With New Biz e-Protect Solution

For a small business, one cyberattack can quickly turn into a major setback.

A locked system, stolen data, fraudulent transaction, or prolonged outage can interrupt daily operations and leave owners facing unexpected costs.

Pioneer Insurance is addressing this growing concern with Biz e-Protect, a cyber insurance solution designed specifically to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs protect their businesses and recover from cyber-related incidents.

The new product was presented during Pioneer Insurance’s “Protection in a World of Cyber Risks” forum on July 7 at Makati Diamond Residences, bringing attention to the growing cybersecurity challenges facing businesses today.

Cyberattacks Can Hit Businesses Where It Hurts Most

As more companies depend on digital tools and online systems, cyber risks have become part of the modern business landscape.

SMEs can face a wide range of threats, including ransomware, data breaches, digital fraud, cyberattacks, and system failures. Beyond the technical damage, these incidents can lead to lost revenue, operational delays, recovery expenses, and reputational harm.

Pioneer Group Head Lorenzo Chan Jr. said Biz e-Protect was created to help SMEs deal with these risks and lessen the financial impact when a cyber incident occurs.

“Biz e-Protect aims to support SMEs facing risks such as cyberattacks, data breaches, digital fraud, ransomware, and system failures that can interrupt operations and impact business reputation,” Chan said.

Why SMEs Need Stronger Cyber Protection

Large companies often have dedicated cybersecurity teams and significant resources to respond to digital threats. Smaller businesses may not have the same level of support.

Many SMEs operate with limited financial reserves, small teams, and little or no dedicated cybersecurity expertise. When a cyber incident happens, these limitations can make an already difficult situation even more challenging.

Pioneer General Accident Head Jenny Tolentino said the company recognized this vulnerability when developing Biz e-Protect.

The solution combines financial protection with complimentary cyber risk management services, giving SMEs additional resources to prepare for threats and respond when an incident occurs.

“Together, we can help SMEs be more prepared, more resilient, and more confident in facing cyber risks,” Tolentino said.

Biz e-Protect Offers Up to P100 Million in Benefits

According to Angelo Naborte, Pioneer Head of Casualty, Crime & Specialty Risks, Biz e-Protect provides up to P100 million in benefits.

The coverage includes several areas that can help businesses manage the financial and operational consequences of a cyber incident.

Key features include:

  • Crisis management support
  • Business interruption protection
  • First-party cyber liability coverage
  • Third-party cyber liability coverage
  • Emergency response expenses
  • Loss mitigation costs

With these protections, businesses can have additional financial support as they work to contain an incident, manage its consequences, and restore operations.

Cybersecurity Support Before an Attack Happens

One of the key aspects of Biz e-Protect is its focus on prevention as well as recovery.

Policyholders receive complimentary access to cyber risk management services from Delta Underwriting.

These services include Breach Check, which provides businesses with a Cyber Risk Exposure Report. The report can help companies gain a clearer picture of potential cyber risks affecting their operations.

Another service, Breach Defense, is a web-based tool designed to help businesses identify and assess cybersecurity vulnerabilities before attackers can take advantage of them.

For SMEs that may not have dedicated cybersecurity personnel, these services can provide valuable assistance in strengthening their digital defenses.

A Stronger Safety Net for Digital Businesses

Cybersecurity is no longer simply an IT concern. For businesses that rely on digital systems, an attack can affect employees, customers, finances, operations, and reputation all at once.

That makes preparation increasingly important.

Through Biz e-Protect, Pioneer Insurance is giving SMEs access to a combination of cyber insurance and risk management support designed to help them prepare for threats, manage losses, and recover from disruptions.

The launch comes as businesses continue to navigate an increasingly connected environment where cyber risks can emerge in many forms.

For SMEs, having a response plan and appropriate financial protection in place before an incident occurs can help reduce disruption and support a faster recovery.
