A Flavorful Family Weekend at F1 Hotel Manila Filled With Filipino Food and Art

Sometimes, all it takes is a comforting meal, a little creativity, and a place where both parents and kids can simply enjoy the day together.
That was exactly what we had at F1 Hotel Manila.
What began with a simple craving for a hearty buffet turned into a memorable family afternoon filled with Filipino flavors, regional specialties, colorful artwork, and plenty of quality time together.
With the rainy August weather, a warm and satisfying lunch felt like the perfect weekend treat. We had also been missing the buffet at F1 Hotel Manila, so heading back to BGC for a leisurely family lunch was something we were all looking forward to.
A Filipino Food Journey in One Buffet
In celebration of Buwan ng Wika, F1 Hotel Manila is giving its Weekend Lunch Buffet a distinctly Filipino touch this August.
Served every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, the buffet brings together regional dishes inspired by different parts of the Philippines. Instead of sticking to the usual familiar favorites, the spread highlights local specialties, ingredients, and cooking traditions from various provinces and regions.
For our family, this made lunchtime feel like more than just a buffet.
It became a chance to introduce the kids to the incredible variety of Filipino cuisine.
Growing up in the Philippines, we often have our own comfort foods and family favorites, but there is so much more to Filipino cooking than the dishes we usually see on restaurant menus. Having regional specialties gathered in one place made it easy to appreciate just how diverse our food culture really is.
And, of course, I was very happy to see a few dishes I had been craving.
Regional Filipino Dishes Worth Going Back For
One of the highlights for me was the Sinaing na Tulingan, a Batangueño favorite known for its slow cooking and wonderfully tangy, savory flavor. It was the kind of dish that immediately brought back memories of home cooked Filipino meals.
Another favorite was Pancit Habhab, the well loved noodle dish associated with Quezon. Its simple yet satisfying flavors made it easy to understand why this regional specialty has remained a Filipino favorite.
There were also dishes that gave us a chance to try something different.
Piyanggang Manok brought a taste of Mindanao to the table, with chicken cooked in a rich sauce made with burnt coconut paste and spices. The dark color may be surprising at first, but the flavor was deep, smoky, and distinctly Filipino.
Lawot Lawot, a comforting Visayan vegetable dish, offered something lighter while still being packed with local greens and flavor. It was a lovely reminder that Filipino cuisine has plenty of vegetable based dishes that deserve more attention.
Then there was Beef Kulma, a Southern Mindanao specialty with tender beef simmered in coconut milk and peanut sauce. Creamy, mildly spiced, and comforting, it quickly became another dish we wanted to sample again.
With so many regional flavors on the buffet table, every plate offered something different.
A Fun Art Activity for the Kids
As enjoyable as the food was, one of my favorite parts of the afternoon was seeing the kids have something special to look forward to as well.
Alongside the Weekend Lunch Buffet, children can join a Kids Art Session with Enigma Art Tutorial.
Each child receives a mini art kit, giving them the chance to sit down, get creative, and make their own artwork while the adults enjoy a relaxed meal.
As a mom of three, I really appreciated this thoughtful addition.
Family dining can sometimes mean spending half the meal reminding the kids to sit still or asking them what they want to eat next. This time, they had an activity that kept their little hands busy and their imaginations going.
I loved watching them choose their colors, work on their paintings, experiment with their brushstrokes, and proudly show us what they created.
There was something heartwarming about seeing how seriously they took their little masterpieces.
While the Kids Painted, We Went Back for Seconds
Of course, while the kids were happily focused on their artwork, we parents had our own way of making the most of the afternoon.
More Filipino food.
It was the perfect setup. The kids had their creative corner, while we could enjoy a leisurely meal without feeling rushed.
And yes, going back for another serving of our favorite regional dishes was absolutely part of the plan.
What I appreciated most was how naturally everything came together. The buffet gave us a taste of Filipino culinary traditions, the art activity gave the kids something engaging to do, and the relaxed setting gave our family time to simply enjoy being together.
More Than Just a Weekend Lunch
By the time we finished, it felt like we had spent much more than a couple of hours having lunch.
We had shared stories over Filipino dishes, introduced the kids to regional flavors, watched them create their own artwork, and enjoyed the kind of slow family afternoon that can be hard to squeeze into a busy schedule.
It was a simple weekend plan, but those are often the moments that become the most memorable.
