Capital One Philippines Strengthens Communities Through Clean Water and Education

For communities facing disaster or struggling with limited resources, access to clean water and quality education can make a life changing difference.

In the Philippines, Capital One Philippines is helping make that difference through community programs focused on clean water, education, health and safety, and financial and mental wellness.

Its recent disaster relief efforts following the Mayon Volcano eruption, combined with its continuing support for local schools, highlight a broader commitment to helping communities build healthier, safer, and more promising futures.

Bringing Clean Water to Communities Affected by Mayon Volcano

When Mayon Volcano erupted in Albay, thousands of families were forced to leave their homes as heavy ashfall disrupted daily life and contaminated local water sources.

For communities already dealing with displacement and uncertainty, access to safe drinking water became an immediate concern. Approximately 280,000 people were affected by the disruption to local water sources, while thousands sought refuge in temporary evacuation centers.

To help address this urgent need, Capital One Philippines partnered with Planet Water Foundation to bring clean and potable water to communities severely affected by the eruption.

An AquaBlock Emergency Water System was installed at the Tandarora Community Center in Guinobatan, Albay. The emergency system is capable of producing up to 700 liters of potable water every hour, providing enough safe water to support as many as 6,000 people.

The support also reached families in several communities through 300 AquaSafe Water Filter & Hygiene Station systems.

These systems were distributed to families at the evacuation center in Bariw Elementary School in Camalig, the remote Tandarora community in Guinobatan, and the Mi-isi farming community in Daraga. Beyond providing access to safer drinking water, each system includes an integrated handwashing station to help promote better hygiene practices.

For families navigating the aftermath of a volcanic eruption, these resources provide more than immediate relief. They offer a safer way to meet one of the most basic needs of everyday life.

Supporting Schools Through Clean Water and Wellness Programs

In partnership with Planet Water Foundation, Capital One Philippines has supported water tower donations, water tower repairs, and hygiene education programs in schools across Cavite and Laguna.

Capital One Philippines was named one of the Most Outstanding Stakeholders by the Department of Education in Cavite for its contributions to water infrastructure and hygiene education.

The organization also received the Busilak Award from the Department of Education in Laguna for its contributions and continued support for local learners. Its initiatives in the province have included mental and financial wellness workshops, school supplies, hygiene kits, and repairs to school water towers to help maintain access to clean and safe drinking water.

Reaching Thousands of Students Across Laguna and Cavite

The numbers show the scale of these community programs.

In Laguna, Capital One Philippines' education initiatives have supported five schools and benefited approximately 3,000 individuals. The programs provided school supplies and hygiene kits while also addressing school water infrastructure and student wellness.

In Cavite, the company's initiatives reached 21 schools and more than 24,000 beneficiaries. The programs focused on improving access to clean water while teaching students and communities about proper hygiene.

Together, these efforts demonstrate how investments in schools can address several needs at once. A functioning water system can support student health. Hygiene education can encourage safer daily habits. Wellness programs can help young people develop the tools they need to manage challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
