Our Impromptu Wild Orchid Beach Resort Subic Getaway

11:49 AM

It has been a rough couple of months and since we only see each other twice a month, my hubby and I decided on a whim to take the kids and go to Subic .
The travel time was only 2-3 hours so no biggie for  hubby though he drove all the way from Tuguegarao the night before.

If you are travelling by car via Lubao and rural road from Manila

---take the NLEX all the way to San Fernando exit
pass thru towns of Pampanga (Bacolor, Guagua, Lubao) and Bataan (Dinalupihan)
to the Subic Bay Freeport Expressway (Tipo Road, Bataan).

If you are travelling by car via SCTEx (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway) from Manila and any point in Luzon

-- Take the NLEX all the way
pass San Fernando through Dau
exits to the Subic Bay Freeport Expressway (Tipo Road, Bataan).
When you reached the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, just go straight ahead from the toll to Rizal Gate exiting through the Kalaklan gate where you will see the aerial view of the placid beaches in the area.

In Barrio Barretto, you will see signage of the famous Baloy long beach just 250 meters away from the National Road. In the main entrance of the Baloy long beach community, the guards are ready to give directions on how to go to Wild Orchid Beach Resort.
Wild Orchid was not our first choice but since it was the peak season and most of the resorts were already full, we opted for this one.

The interiors has a bit of modern , rustic feel with touch of seaside / marine life. A friendly receptionist with a big smile will welcome you in a well lit, red-carpeted lobby that will make you feel comfortable at first (lol).
A plethora of Marine and navy decorations are seen all over the lobby creating a seaside feel.
Although i really don't know if this goes well with the other marine decors, my kids got crazy with the Gong anyway!
The coffee shop is conveniently located beside the reception area so you can relax for a minute while waiting for your husband to book a room.
More tables were at the lobby area to accommodate all newly arrived guests. The Cafe and bar is open 24 hours.
The elevator is kinda small and slow. I'm Claustrophobic so this was a big deal for me.
The deluxe room on the third floor was the only available that night so there was zero chance of choosing a pool-side view room. We paid 3,999 for this.
They have 83 rooms and 5 styles to choose from. Here are the rates :
Accommodation Inclusions:

The rooms have Silent Airconditioning, Hot and Cold Shower, In Room Safety Deposit Box, 32 inches Flat Screened TV with Cable Connection, DVD Player, Refrigerator, Telephone, and FREE Internet Connection.
All rooms have One King Size Bed only except for Suite Rooms with Two (2) King size Bed
Complimentary soap, shampoo and lotion.
24 hours Room Service
24 hours Security Service
Free Secured Convenient Parking
Free use of Beach area and Swimming Pool
Free use of Billiard Table
Daily Live Band at the Barefoot Bar from 7pm -11pm.

Children 12 years & below sharing beds with adult are free of charge
(maximum of two children per room)
The bathroom is not so clean plus molds all over. I'm such an OC and dirty baths like this makes me sick. Literally.
I would never ever , not in a million years , choose this room. Although it has a king size bed, it was uncomfortable and smelled of moth balls. My kids were too tired to notice thankfully.
We lost precious hours from all those resorts-hunting we did and there was definitely a lesson learned.
Instead of getting "sea sick" from all the negativity, we continued our tour and look for the pool/beach.
I love the pool side at night. Another bar was located just beside it. The pool was huuuuge. They allow night swimming for the guests. Above is the kiddie pool. You can easily find a secluded table around the place for you to relax.
The beach is located just outside the hotel.
They also have nightly BBQ and live music at their Barefoot Bar & BBQ.
Outdoor functions like weddings and parties can be accommodated here as well.
The downside? A bit pricey for our taste and yet too bland.
Nothing special about the food.
I wasn't able to take photos because i got truly disappointed.
I took a selfie instead! Hah!
And oh, the sand here is not powder white nor off-white. It's black.
Anyway, we got up early and took advantage of the pool and it was worth it.
The pool really was the main attraction and we just couldn't stop swimming!
I really love the pool :) Yes, they have the biggest pool in town.
We were extremely lucky cause we were the only ones there using it most of the time.
Maybe the others took advantage of the beach instead.

Would I come back? Most definitely. Will try other places in Subic. Just not here.
