Miming and Friends Wraps Up Award Winning Sustainability Series as Mondelēz International and DENR EMB Strengthen Environmental Education

Environmental education becomes even more meaningful when it is told through stories that children and families can easily understand.

This vision came to life as Mondelēz International in the Philippines and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Environmental Management Bureau (DENR EMB) officially launched the fifth and final episode of the Miming and Friends sustainability series while reinforcing their partnership to inspire greener habits among Filipinos.

Held at LOLA Cafe Broadway in Quezon City on July 22, 2026, the event celebrated the conclusion of a five-episode animated YouTube series that has transformed environmental lessons into entertaining stories for young audiences. The occasion also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Mondelēz International and DENR EMB, highlighting their shared commitment to promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste management across the country.

A Milestone for Environmental Education in the Philippines

Since launching its sustainability series in 2022, Miming and Friends has introduced children and families to practical environmental topics including waste segregation, plastic recycling, composting, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The animated series is the result of a collaboration between Mondelēz International Philippines, Save Philippine Seas, and the creative minds behind Miming and Friends, Ramon del Prado and Meryll Yan from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

By blending scientific information with engaging Filipino storytelling, the project makes sustainability easier to understand while encouraging families to practice environmentally responsible habits in their everyday lives.

Adding to its growing recognition, Miming and Friends was selected as one of the Philippine representatives for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Southeast Asia Creators Meet Up in July 2026.

"Miming and Friends shows that learning about the environment doesn't have to be scary or complicated. By placing sustainability in the hands of children and their families through fun Filipino storytelling, we can hopefully help build habits that last across generations," said Caitlin Punzalan, Corporate and Government Affairs Lead of Mondelēz International in the Philippines.

The Greenhouse Monster Returns With an Important Lesson

The final episode, The Greenhouse Monster Part 2, delivers a timely message about climate responsibility.

The story reveals that the mysterious greenhouse monster introduced in the previous episode was actually created by excessive human pollution. As the characters work together to protect their island, they practice proper waste segregation, recycling, and composting, showing viewers that even simple everyday actions can make a meaningful difference for the environment.

The episode reminds children and adults alike that caring for the planet begins with small but consistent choices made at home and within the community.

Supporting the Philippines' Extended Producer Responsibility Law

The sustainability series also supports the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022 or Republic Act No. 11898, a landmark environmental law that requires large companies to recover and properly manage their post consumer plastic packaging waste.

As part of its commitment to the EPR framework, Mondelēz International developed the Miming and Friends sustainability series as an educational initiative that promotes proper waste segregation, recycling, and responsible waste management using engaging Filipino animation.

The project demonstrates how education and entertainment can work together to encourage positive environmental action among younger generations.

More Than 121,000 Subscribers and Growing

What started as an educational YouTube channel has grown into one of the country's trusted learning resources for environmental awareness.

Since its launch in 2020, Miming and Friends has attracted more than 121,000 YouTube subscribers, earning the platform's Silver Play Button in January 2026. Its videos have reached hundreds of thousands of viewers and are now widely used by schools, teachers, non government organizations, and even the DENR through its official Facebook page as educational materials.

"Animation is powerful. Kids listen while parents learn alongside them. By bringing science into storytelling, we help more families understand why waste segregation matters, how plastics affect oceans, and what they can do in their own communities," shared Anna Oposa, Executive Director and Chief Mermaid of Save Philippine Seas.

A Strong Partnership for a Greener Future

The completion of the five-episode sustainability series highlights what can be achieved when government agencies, private companies, environmental organizations, and creative storytellers work toward a common goal.

Through their newly formalized partnership, Mondelēz International and DENR EMB aim to continue promoting environmental education while inspiring Filipino communities to adopt sustainable practices that can create lasting impact for future generations.

As environmental challenges continue to grow, initiatives like Miming and Friends prove that meaningful change can begin with a simple story that teaches children how small actions today can help build a cleaner and healthier tomorrow.

Families, educators, and environmental advocates can watch the complete Miming and Friends Sustainability Series on the official Miming and Friends YouTube channel, where all five episodes are now available.
