RCBC Launches New Piso Fare Promo for LRT 2 Riders
Commuters have a new reason to make their daily trips on Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) even more rewarding. RCBC has launched its PISO Fare Cashback Promo, giving eligible cardholders the chance to enjoy fare cashback while using the country's newest cashless rail payment system.
Running from July 13 to July 31, the promo is exclusively available to RCBC Debit Card holders, RCBC Credit Card holders, and MySSS RCBC DiskarTech Debit Card holders. The campaign encourages more Filipinos to embrace faster and more convenient digital fare payments during their daily commute.
The promo coincides with the rollout of the Philippines' first rail-based automated fare collection system that combines open-loop EMV card payments, NFC-enabled mobile wallets, and interoperable QR payment options into one seamless platform.
The initiative was made possible through the partnership of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and Visa. It marks another significant milestone in the country's efforts to modernize public transportation and accelerate digital payment adoption.
Unlike traditional transit systems that require dedicated stored-value cards, the new platform is designed to be bank-agnostic and future-ready. Commuters can use eligible payment methods issued by participating banks, electronic money issuers, and fintech providers, making fare payments faster, simpler, and more accessible.
RCBC President and CEO Reggie Cariaso said the initiative reflects the bank's commitment to helping build a digitally connected Philippines.
"We are grateful for the trust and partnership of the DOTr and LRTA as we continue building accessible and future-ready digital ecosystems for Filipinos. Beyond banking, we see digital finance as an enabler of more connected, seamless, and efficient daily experiences," Cariaso said.
The new payment system is expected to improve the commuting experience for more than 58.7 million passengers who ride LRT-2 every year by streamlining fare collection and reducing payment friction at station gates.
RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief Innovations and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva described the launch as a major step toward bringing Philippine public transportation in line with international transit payment standards.
"This is a defining milestone in the modernization of Philippine public transportation. For the first time, commuters can seamlessly use their everyday bank cards, mobile NFC wallets, and QR payments in one interoperable transit ecosystem. By making commuting simpler, faster, and more inclusive, we are accelerating digital adoption, advancing financial inclusion, and bringing the Philippines closer to the digital transport systems found in leading global cities," Villanueva said.
Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro noted that the LRT-2 project is the company's fifth transit initiative in the Philippines, following deployments in MRT-3 and bus systems in Cebu, Mandaue, and Bacolod.
"Through our partnership with RCBC and the Philippine government, we are helping expand access to secure and interoperable digital payments that improve commuter convenience, urban mobility, and economic productivity," Navarro said.
RCBC Credit Cards President and CEO Arniel Vincent Ong added that initiatives like the new LRT-2 payment system make cashless transactions even more practical for everyday commuters.
Beyond the Piso Fare Cashback Promo, the rollout reflects RCBC's broader commitment to expanding digital financial services through innovations such as RCBC Pulz, RCBC DiskarTech, RCBC ATM Go, and strategic partnerships that support financial inclusion and a more connected digital economy.
With the launch of the new promo and the introduction of a modern fare payment system, LRT-2 riders can look forward to quicker transactions, greater convenience, and added rewards every time they travel.
