The Shards Brings Dark Secrets and Deadly Obsession to Disney Plus This August
The chilling world of FX’s The Shards is almost here. Disney+ has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated psychological drama, giving viewers a gripping first look at the adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ acclaimed bestselling novel. Executive produced by Ryan Murphy, the series premieres exclusively on Disney+ Philippines on August 6, with the first two episodes available to stream starting at 9:00 a.m.
Set in the glamorous yet unsettling landscape of 1980s Los Angeles, The Shards pulls viewers into a world where privilege, ambition, and dark secrets collide. Beneath the polished image of an elite prep school lies a disturbing story filled with obsession, jealousy, desire, and the hidden dangers that threaten the lives of its students.
At the heart of the series is Bret, played by Igby Rigney, an aspiring writer whose sharp observations make him question everything happening around him. His carefully ordered world begins to fall apart when enigmatic transfer student Robert Mallory, portrayed by Homer Gere, arrives just before senior year. Robert's sudden appearance coincides with the growing fear surrounding The Trawler, a serial killer who has been targeting teenagers across Los Angeles, blurring the line between paranoia and reality.
Surrounding Bret is a tight-knit circle of wealthy classmates whose seemingly perfect lives mask emotional turmoil and dangerous relationships. The group includes Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber), Debbie Schaffer (Hayes Warner), and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell). Together, they embrace a lifestyle of luxury, extravagant parties, and youthful excess, while unknowingly drifting closer to the darkness lurking beneath their glamorous world.
The adults in their lives offer little comfort, instead reflecting the same moral ambiguity that shadows the younger generation. The cast also features Wes Bentley as Terry Schaffer, Evan Rachel Wood as Liz Schaffer, and Jordan Roth as Steven Reinhardt, adding further depth to the series' tense and emotionally charged narrative.
Bringing together the unmistakable storytelling styles of Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis, The Shards promises a suspense-filled blend of psychological mystery, coming-of-age drama, and crime thriller. The series is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Bret Easton Ellis, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Tanase Popa, Nick Hall, Michael Uppendahl, Max Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young, and is produced by 20th Television.
With its stylish 1980s setting, compelling cast, and haunting mystery at its core, FX’s The Shards is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about drama premieres of the year. Fans of psychological thrillers and character-driven mysteries won't want to miss its exclusive debut on Disney+ Philippines beginning August 6.
