Why Most Filipinos Feel Paid Fairly But Still Struggle Finely

Getting paid what you're worth on paper doesn't mean you can easily pay your bills. The latest 2026 Jobstreet by SEEK report reveals a relatable truth about working in the Philippines: most people think their paycheck is fair, but very few are actually comfortable with what they make.

The Philippines ranks high in Asia for fair pay, 80% of Filipino workers say their salary fits industry standards. But when you look at actual daily life, the story changes completely.

The Difference Between "Fair Pay" and "Enough Pay"

While 80% feel their pay is fair, only 59% are actually happy with what they take home. Even worse, 45% say their paycheck simply isn't enough to cover basic living expenses like groceries, rent, and utilities.

How you feel about your salary changes everything at work:

  • When you feel well-paid: You're twice as likely to stay motivated and put extra effort into your job.

  • When you feel underpaid: You're nearly three times as likely to look for a new job immediately.

  • What people value: Almost 30% of workers would move to another city for a 10% raise, but almost no one is willing to take a pay bump if it means working in a toxic workplace.

How Different Age Groups and Jobs Feel About Pay

Your generation and the industry you work in play a huge role in how far your salary stretches.

Millennials: Struggling the most with bills. Over half say their income falls short of daily living costs, leading many to pick up extra side hustles.

Gen Z: Slightly happier with their pay (61%). Most (83%) are willing to take lower job titles or simpler roles if it comes with a 10% salary increase.

Tech & Construction: The happiest workers. Steady wage growth and recent raises keep pay satisfaction high in these fields.

Industrial & Factory Workers: Feeling the financial pinch the most, with nearly 60% saying their earnings can't keep up with rising prices.

At the end of the day, companies need to look beyond baseline market rates and focus on realistic living costs and healthy work environments if they want to keep their best people.
