Jollibee Brings the Joy of Learning to More Filipino Classrooms

For many Filipino students, a classroom is more than four walls and a place to sit.

It is where friendships begin, questions are asked, dreams take shape, and young minds start imagining what their future could look like.

But in communities where classrooms are limited or learning spaces need improvement, having a safe and welcoming place to study can make a meaningful difference.

That is the heart behind the Jollibee Group’s Joy Learning Center initiative, which is bringing new classrooms and renewed opportunities to students across the Philippines.

The initiative has now reached three communities, with new learning spaces built in Cebu, Occidental Mindoro, and Sarangani. The latest milestone took place at Alabel Integrated School in Sarangani, where the third set of Joy Learning Center classrooms was officially turned over on August 24, 2026.

The new classrooms bring the total number of Joy Learning Center classrooms built through the initiative to six.

From Cebu to Sarangani, One Classroom at a Time

The story began in July at Tangub Elementary School in Pinamungajan, Cebu.

There, two new classrooms opened their doors to students, marking the launch of the Joy Learning Center initiative. The project then moved to Buriraoan Elementary School in the Municipality of Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, where another two classrooms were turned over.

The third site brought the initiative to Alabel Integrated School in Sarangani.

The latest turnover was made possible through a partnership involving the Jollibee Group Foundation, Jollibee, the Department of Education, the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation Inc., and the local government of Alabel.

More than simply adding physical spaces, the initiative aims to help schools create learning environments where children can study comfortably, build confidence, and work toward their aspirations.

Creating Better Spaces for Filipino Learners

Across the country, schools continue to face challenges in providing adequate classrooms for growing communities.

The Joy Learning Center initiative supports efforts to address this need by helping provide additional spaces where students can learn, grow, and prepare for the future.

For Jollibee Group, the goal goes beyond construction.

“Every program we build around education is guided by a simple principle: that access to knowledge and a good learning environment should not depend on geography or circumstance,” said Ferns Yu, Jollibee Philippines President.

Through the initiative, the company aims to bring learning opportunities closer to communities that need them, with the long-term goal of helping students learn with dignity, build confidence, and eventually contribute to their families, communities, and country.

A Community Effort With Lasting Impact

Building classrooms takes more than materials and construction work. It also requires people and organizations willing to work together toward a common purpose.

The Joy Learning Center initiative brings together public and private partners to respond to the needs of learners in underserved communities.

In Sarangani, CLAFI emphasized the lasting significance of the new classrooms.

“These classrooms represent continuity, recovery, and hope. They show how partnerships can translate shared commitments into something concrete and lasting for our children,” said Cecile Dominguez Yujuico, President of the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation.

For the local government of Alabel, the project also represents an investment in the community’s children and their future.

“To CLAFI and JGF, maraming maraming salamat po sa inyong patuloy na pagmamahal, malasakit, at pagtitiwala sa aming bayan,” said Hon. Lilibeth “Ybing” Salarda, Municipal Mayor of Alabel. “Your generosity is not only building classrooms—it is building opportunities, nurturing dreams, and helping build a brighter future for the children of Alabel.”

Her message captures an important part of the initiative: education is not the responsibility of schools alone. Families, communities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and businesses can all play a role in creating better conditions for children to learn.

Education at the Heart of Jollibee Group’s Community Programs

The Joy Learning Center initiative is part of the Jollibee Group Foundation’s broader education agenda.

It complements programs such as the Busog, Lusog, Talino Central Kitchen initiative, which supports school-based nutrition efforts, and Jolliskwela, Jollibee’s employee volunteerism program focused on education.

Together, these programs address different aspects of a child’s learning environment, from access to suitable spaces to nutrition and community involvement.

Jolliskwela volunteers also joined the activities at Alabel Integrated School, adding a personal touch to the classroom turnover through fun activities for the students.

For the children, moments like these can turn an ordinary school day into something memorable.

Looking Toward a Future Filled With More Learning Opportunities

The Joy Learning Center initiative is also connected to the Jollibee Group’s global sustainability agenda, Joy for Tomorrow, which focuses on Food, People, and Planet.

As part of the Group’s preparations for its 50th anniversary celebration in 2028, the Joy Learning Centers represent its “Through the Joy of Learning” partnership and its continued investment in education infrastructure and skills development.

The vision is straightforward but meaningful: help create learning environments where children have the space and support they need to participate in education and prepare for their future.

With six classrooms now completed across three communities, the initiative has already taken its first steps.

From Tangub Elementary School in Cebu to Buriraoan Elementary School in Occidental Mindoro and Alabel Integrated School in Sarangani, each new classroom represents another opportunity for students to learn, dream, and look ahead.

And if the initiative continues to grow, more communities may soon have their own classrooms where the next generation of Filipino learners can begin writing their stories.
