Likhang Mateo Lights Up SM City San Mateo with a Powerful Showcase of Homegrown Art

In vibrant celebration of National Arts Month, SM City San Mateo proudly hosts Likhang Mateo: A Homegrown Visual Exhibit, a compelling art showcase organized by the local tourism office of the Municipality of San Mateo.

Anchored on the 2026 National Arts Month theme of National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), “Ani ng Sining: Katotohanan at Giting,” the exhibit highlights artistic truth, courage, and creative identity deeply rooted in the community. More than just an art display, Likhang Mateo is a celebration of San Mateo’s rich culture and thriving creative spirit.

A Tribute to San Mateo’s Artistic Soul

Bringing together veteran and emerging artists who proudly call San Mateo home, the exhibit transforms the mall’s 2nd Level Activity Area into a dynamic gallery space. Each artwork tells a story, of heritage, personal journeys, environmental consciousness, and the town’s evolving identity.

Mallgoers are greeted by striking pieces such as the intricately carved wood sculpture “Mariang Kalikasan” by Marciano Pagkatipunan, a tribute to nature’s strength and grace. Aguilardo Pagkatipunan presents his artistic take on “Tumba-Tumba,” while Marie Claire’s “Amore De Madre” captures heartfelt emotion on canvas. Adding a contemporary edge to the showcase, Jenevic Cariño features 3D-printed resin and FDM-acrylic sculptures that blend technology with artistic vision.

Every piece at Likhang Mateo sparks conversation. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a student seeking inspiration, or a family enjoying a weekend gala, the exhibit offers something meaningful to reflect on.

Bringing Art Closer to the Community

By hosting initiatives like Likhang Mateo, SM Supermalls reinforces its commitment to supporting local talent and making art accessible to the public. The exhibit seamlessly integrates culture into everyday mall life, allowing visitors to appreciate homegrown creativity in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The opening ceremony was graced by San Mateo Mayor Bartolome Rivera, together with Municipal Administrator Jose Enrique P. Desiderio and other local officials. They were warmly welcomed by SM City San Mateo Assistant Mall Manager Sigfred Tatom and Khristine Lenon, symbolizing the strong partnership between the local government and the private sector in championing arts and culture.

Support Local Art at SM City San Mateo

Likhang Mateo runs until February 26 at the 2nd Level Activity Area of SM City San Mateo. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to drop by, appreciate the works of talented local artists, and show support for San Mateo’s growing creative community.
