FEU at 98 | A Campus Alive with Learning Innovation and Student Growth
Far Eastern University marked its 98th founding anniversary this February with a celebration that reflected what the institution values most: learning in action.
Rather than pausing regular academic life, the university transformed the occasion into an extension of it.
From February 9 to 27, 2026, the campus buzzed with academic forums, research congresses, industry dialogues, and student development initiatives held alongside long-standing traditions honoring the university’s founder.
The result was a dynamic anniversary where celebration and education moved side by side. Across the university, students participated in meaningful conversations about workplace agility, social entrepreneurship, sustainability, innovation, and professional resilience, topics shaping the modern professional landscape.
A Campus Where Learning Extends Beyond the Classroom
Students from programs in business, finance, education, tourism, sciences, communications, and the arts took part in discussions and collaborative activities designed to connect classroom knowledge with real-world application. Faculty experts, alumni, corporate leaders, and industry practitioners joined these engagements not merely as guest speakers but as active contributors to a broader learning ecosystem.
The approach reflects the university’s long-standing philosophy that academic growth should extend beyond lectures and textbooks. By bringing professionals directly into campus spaces, FEU allows students to explore how theory translates into practice and how their education aligns with evolving industry needs.
Dr. Joeven Castro, Vice President for Student Development and Continuing Education, emphasized that the anniversary activities mirror the institution’s core purpose.
“Our founding anniversary reminds us of why the university was established: to provide meaningful and accessible education,” he said. “Meaningful education means equipping students not only with knowledge, but with the confidence and adaptability to navigate professional environments or pursue their own ventures. Our anniversary activities reflected that continuing commitment.”
TamFLEX Series Strengthens Career Readiness
One of the key initiatives highlighted during the anniversary period was The TamFLEX Series: FEUture-Ready Learning and Employability eXperience. This three-day workshop series was designed to equip Tamaraws with essential competencies, confidence, and practical skills needed in today’s evolving career environment.
Through career talks, interactive workshops, and hands-on activities, students strengthened their preparation for internships, job applications, and workplace expectations. The program also gave participants a clearer view of the professional landscape they will soon enter.
The TamFLEX Series first launched on January 27 in partnership with Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC). It continued with Megaworld Corporation, which began its three-session engagement with students on February 19. These partnerships reflect FEU’s ongoing effort to build strong connections between academic training and industry practice.
More than a single event, TamFLEX is part of a broader framework designed to align student formation with real employment opportunities and evolving professional demands.
Industry Partnerships Supporting Student Development
Many of the anniversary engagements extended through the final week of February, reinforcing a key principle in FEU’s educational model: career preparation is not a last-minute step but a continuous developmental process.
Ar. Raquel Baquiran, Vice President for Career Development, highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between universities and industry partners.
“We view career readiness as a developmental process, one that requires sustained engagement, structured industry partnerships, and intentional preparation to help students connect their education to real opportunities and long-term career growth,” she explained.
Through partnerships with companies, organizations, and alumni networks, the university continues to provide platforms where students gain early exposure to professional expectations while still in their academic journey.
Moving Toward the FEU Centennial
As Far Eastern University moves closer to its centennial in 2028, its 98th founding anniversary reflects an institution that treats milestones not as endpoints but as opportunities for reflection and refinement.
The celebration honored the university’s origins while highlighting how its educational strategies continue to evolve. By integrating industry engagement, research discussions, and student-centered programs into its anniversary activities, FEU reaffirmed its commitment to preparing graduates who are ready to navigate an increasingly complex world.
At 98, the university’s message is clear: celebration and education can move together, and the future of its Tamaraws begins with learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
