Julie’s Bakeshop Marks 45 Years of Fresh Bread and Filipino Family Traditions

For 45 years, Julie’s Bakeshop has been a familiar sight in communities across the Philippines.

Known as the country’s largest neighborhood bakeshop, Julie’s is celebrating its milestone anniversary with a renewed promise to continue serving Filipino families with freshly baked, affordable bread every day.

The brand welcomed its 45th year with a grand celebration in Cebu City, honoring the suppliers, partners, and franchise owners who have helped grow the business from a single neighborhood bakery into a nationwide name.

A Mother’s Vision That Built a Bakery Empire

Today, Julie’s Bakeshop is led by President and CEO Joseph Gandionco, who continues the mission started by his mother and the company’s founder, Julie Gandionco.

In his speech during the anniversary celebration, Joseph paid tribute to the woman whose dream started it all.

“Without my Mama Julie, whose bold vision, steadfast determination, and boundless generosity laid the cornerstone of Julie’s, none of this would have been possible,” he shared. “Her legacy continues to guide every step we take.”

Julie Gandionco founded the bakery in 1981 in Wireless, Mandaue City. What started as a humble neighborhood shop quickly became a beloved stop for freshly baked bread. Her dream was simple yet powerful: to bring a Julie’s Bakeshop to every barangay, serving warm bread baked in full view and paired with genuine Filipino hospitality.

From One Neighborhood Bakery to Over 600 Stores Nationwide

More than four decades later, that vision is close to becoming reality. Julie’s Bakeshop now operates more than 600 stores across the country, making it the largest neighborhood bakeshop chain in the Philippines.

Generations of Filipinos have grown up enjoying its classic offerings, from soft pandesal and sweet ensaymada to sliced bread and freshly brewed coffee.

The brand’s success comes from a simple formula: freshly baked bread, accessible prices, and stores located right where communities live and gather.

Staying Strong Through Challenges and Giving Back

Julie’s Bakeshop has weathered numerous challenges over the years, including natural disasters and the global pandemic. Through it all, the company has remained committed not only to its business but also to the communities it serves.

In September 2025, when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu, the bakeshop distributed bread bundles to more than 500 affected families. The company also took part in this year’s Sinulog Festival with its annual feeding program for devotees.

These efforts reflect the values of generosity and community service that founder Julie Gandionco championed from the very beginning.

The Next Generation Steps Forward

As Julie’s Bakeshop celebrates its legacy, it is also preparing for the future. The next generation of leaders is stepping in to help guide the company’s continued growth, including Gio Gandionco, son of Joseph Gandionco.

With fresh ideas and a strong foundation built by the previous generations, the brand is positioning itself to stay relevant for years to come.

Anniversary Highlights and Upcoming Collaborations

The 45th anniversary celebration will include several exciting initiatives. Actress and brand ambassador Kim Chiu is set to join the Julie’s Sama Saya event in Cebu, where she will meet longtime supporters of the beloved bakery.

Julie’s is also teaming up with Island Souvenirs for a special collaboration that will introduce exclusive Julie’s-themed shirts, giving fans a fun new way to celebrate the brand’s milestone year.

A Legacy That Continues to Rise

From a single bakery in Mandaue City to more than 600 stores nationwide, Julie’s Bakeshop has become part of everyday Filipino life. Its story is not just about bread, it is about family, community, and the power of a dream that started in a small neighborhood shop.

As the company marks its 45th year, Julie’s Bakeshop remains committed to the same promise that began it all: warm bread, welcoming smiles, and a place in every Filipino community.
