In a powerful move to combat hunger among vulnerable groups, foodpanda Philippines has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to support the Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) under the Pag-abot Program.

This collaboration is part of foodpanda’s “Let’s do our PAUrt” initiative and aligns with the global goal of achieving Zero Hunger, emphasizing how public-private partnerships can make real change by providing essential food resources to communities in need.

As part of the partnership, foodpanda’s grocery service, pandamart, contributed donations of groceries and prepared meals directly to Walang Gutom Kitchen. This effort also involved foodpanda’s delivery riders, who played a hands-on role in distributing the food, gaining firsthand insight into how their work positively impacts communities beyond regular deliveries.

“At foodpanda, we firmly believe that everyone deserves access to nutritious food,” said Lew Lopez, Director of Public Relations and Public Affairs at foodpanda Philippines. “Supporting DSWD’s initiatives is a vital step toward making sure no Filipino goes hungry and uplifting the communities we serve.”

Lopez added, “This partnership is not just about providing aid, it’s about involving our delivery partners in understanding the social impact of their daily work. It’s a meaningful way to empower everyone and strengthen our collective efforts.”

The Walang Gutom Kitchen operates daily, serving around 600 meals (split into two batches) to individuals facing hunger, including those in street situations who are often overlooked, especially during challenging weather conditions like typhoons. The kitchen starts serving breakfast at 6 a.m. and lunch at 11 a.m., sustained by the continuous support of donors such as foodpanda.

Ramil B. Mapoy, Social Welfare Officer at DSWD’s Pag-Abot NPMO, highlighted the significance of such partnerships: “Collaborations like this embody a whole-nation approach that ensures no one is left behind in accessing basic needs. It strengthens our ability to provide consistent support to those who need it most.”

Atty. John Dwight B. Cruz, Chief Administrative Officer of DSWD, also noted the crucial role of private sector involvement: “Hunger and malnutrition affect one in every eleven Filipinos. Corporate social responsibility initiatives like foodpanda’s are essential in extending our reach and achieving sustainable food security.”

This partnership showcases how foodpanda leverages its platform, delivery network, and resources to make a real difference in communities. Beyond just meal delivery, it’s a demonstration of how businesses can actively drive inclusive growth and support sustainable development efforts, building a more compassionate and resilient society.
