How Mondelēz International is Shaping the Future of Mindful Snacking in the Philippines
Mondelēz International is making waves in the Philippine health and nutrition scene by championing mindful snacking through strong partnerships with key organizations like the Philippine Society of Nutrition and Dietetics (PSND), the Philippine Association for the Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO), and the Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN).
At recent health conventions and forums, the company showcased the latest science and practical strategies behind snacking smarter.
Tang Sin Loon, Southeast Asia Lead for Nutrition Strategy & Communications at Mondelēz International, highlighted key insights from the company’s 2024 State of Philippine Snacking report, revealing that 98% of Filipinos enjoy at least one snack daily, a figure notably higher than the global average of 91%. What’s changed is how snacking is viewed: it’s no longer just about curbing hunger but also about nourishment, boosting energy, and enhancing enjoyment.
With popular brands like Oreo, Toblerone, Eden Cheese, and Cadbury Dairy Milk under its belt, Mondelēz International is focused on creating snacks that not only satisfy cravings but also support overall well-being. Tang emphasized that “snacking, when done in the right portion and with intention, fits perfectly into a balanced lifestyle.”
The company’s mindful snacking approach centers on four pillars: mindful eating, mindful portions, mindful recipes, and mindful choices. To support this, Mondelēz International has introduced portion-controlled packs, offering individually wrapped snacks and products under 200 calories, paired with clear labeling and easy-to-understand portion guidance to help consumers make smarter decisions.
Moreover, the company is reformulating recipes to reduce health-sensitive nutrients, boost nutritional value, and offer a variety of options that meet different snacking needs. These initiatives align closely with the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028, which promotes behavioral change to combat malnutrition.
Scientific research backs the benefits of mindfulness in eating, demonstrating that mindful snacking can reduce overeating and promote healthier habits by encouraging people to pay attention to hunger cues, savor their food fully, and choose snacks consciously.
“Snacking is more than just food; it’s a holistic experience that supports both physical and emotional well-being,” said Tang. “By providing mindful snacking options and education, we want to empower Filipinos to enjoy their favorite snacks while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
As Mondelēz International continues to collaborate with health experts and communities, its commitment remains clear: to make mindful snacking an accessible and enjoyable part of everyday life for Filipinos. Through thoughtful product innovation, transparent communication, and consumer education, the company is helping people snack right, every day.
