47,500 Voices Rise for Inclusion at 2026 ASP Angels Walk Across the Philippines

A powerful wave of compassion and solidarity swept across the country as 47,500 advocates came together for the 2026 ASP Angels Walk for Autism, marking the largest gathering of autism allies in Southeast Asia to date.

Organized by the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) in partnership with SM Cares, the nationwide event transformed malls and public spaces into vibrant hubs of support, understanding, and hope on April 26, 2026.

For nearly two decades, the ASP Angels Walk has been more than an annual tradition, it has become a heartfelt movement rooted in inclusion and dignity. This year, that spirit reached new heights as simultaneous walks unfolded across SM malls nationwide, bringing together families, advocates, and communities in a shared mission to uplift individuals on the autism spectrum.

At the heart of the celebration was a simple but powerful message: everyone deserves to belong.

Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls, captured this sentiment, emphasizing that inclusion goes beyond physical spaces. “It’s about making people feel seen, valued, and supported,” he shared. “We stand side by side with the autism community, inspired by their strength and determination, and committed to building a future where every individual can thrive.”

Turning Advocacy into Action

This year’s theme, “Aumbitious. Aarangkada. Aangat.”, set the tone for a more action-driven movement, encouraging communities to move from awareness to meaningful change. Behind the scenes, preparations reflected this commitment. The venue team at SM Mall of Asia Arena underwent specialized “Barrier-Free Tourism Kaya Natin” training by the Department of Tourism, ensuring a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for individuals on the spectrum.

The event also honored partners who have made a lasting impact on the advocacy. SM Book Nook was recognized as ASP Autism Works Partner of the Year for creating inclusive spaces that encourage learning and connection. Meanwhile, Joy Belmonte received the Hans T. Sy Leadership Award for Autism Inclusion and Welfare, celebrating her dedication to policies and programs that uplift the autism community.

A Nationwide Movement for an Autism-OK Philippines

What began as a single walk has grown into a nationwide call for acceptance and action. The ASP Angels Walk continues to champion the vision of an Autism-OK Philippines, one where individuals on the spectrum are welcomed, supported, and empowered in every aspect of society.

From SM City Baguio to SM Seaside City Cebu, and from SM City Davao to SM City Iloilo, communities gathered in unison, each step a reminder that inclusion is a shared responsibility.

Through its continued partnership with ASP, SM Cares remains steadfast in building inclusive spaces and programs that go beyond a single day. These efforts reflect a deeper commitment: to create environments where differences are embraced and every individual is given the opportunity to live fully and meaningfully.

As the crowds dispersed and the day came to a close, one thing was clear, the movement is only getting stronger. And with every step forward, the vision of a more inclusive Philippines feels closer than ever.
