Filipino Mompreneurs Embrace AI to Grow Smarter Businesses in the New Era of Digital “Diskarte”
PLDT Home and Google Philippines are redefining what it means to be a modern Filipino entrepreneur by helping moms turn artificial intelligence into a powerful business partner.
For years, “empowerment” was often defined by access to the internet, education, and global opportunities. But that definition is rapidly evolving. In today’s digital landscape, connection alone is no longer enough. The real advantage lies in knowing how to use technology, especially AI, to build, manage, and grow a business with confidence.
A new kind of digital gap is emerging. It is no longer just about who is online, but who can fully harness the tools available to them. And as AI continues to reshape industries, the ability to adapt has become essential for staying competitive.
From Being Online to Thriving in the AI Era
To address this shift, PLDT Home’s Madiskarte Moms PH (MMPH) partnered with Google Philippines for the second Gemini Academy for mompreneurs. Building on last year’s introduction to AI, this year’s program focused on practical application—helping women integrate AI into real business tasks such as content creation, customer communication, research, and operations.
The goal is simple but powerful: help Filipino mompreneurs become more than digital users. They are being equipped to become AI-powered business leaders.
Cheryl Maxine Loyola, AVP and Head of PR and Brand Advocacy at PLDT Home, emphasized how AI is leveling the playing field.
“AI is no longer limited to large enterprises. It is for everyone. It becomes a partner that helps you write product descriptions in seconds, respond to customers confidently, create content, and manage daily operations,” she said. “When you put tools like Gemini in the hands of women who are already ‘madiskarte,’ you unlock real potential.”
Real Stories of AI-Powered Growth
The academy highlighted how accessible AI has become even for entrepreneurs with no technical background.
One participant, mompreneur Princess Alvarez of ISLA Everything Accessories, built a custom pricing calculator and business tracker using Google Gemini. This gave her real-time insight into profitability without needing advanced coding skills.
Another mompreneur, Jenielyn Sicabalo-Nieva of MP Nieva’s Flower Shop, used AI to research bouquet trends and innovative gift add-ons. This allowed her to continuously refresh her product offerings and stay ahead of customer preferences.
These stories reflect a larger transformation: Filipino women are no longer just running small businesses. They are scaling them with digital intelligence.
Daphne Gripal Abello, Manager at PLDT Home Marketing PR and Brand Advocacy, described this evolution as a new kind of entrepreneurship.
“What we’re seeing is a new kind of ‘diskarte’, Filipina entrepreneurs using AI not just to support their businesses, but to lead, innovate, and scale with confidence,” she said.
AI Tools That Simplify and Empower
Beyond Gemini, participants were introduced to a suite of Google tools designed to simplify business operations and spark creativity.
NotebookLM helps organize ideas, summarize documents, and support brainstorming like a personal digital assistant. Lyria opens creative possibilities in music generation, while Nano Banana enables AI-powered image editing for visual content creation. Pomelli supports marketing tasks by streamlining digital workflows and improving efficiency.
Together, these tools help mompreneurs automate repetitive work so they can focus on strategy, creativity, and growth.
During hands-on sessions, participants quickly turned ideas into professional outputs, proving that AI can significantly shorten the gap between concept and execution.
Celebrating the Rise of “Diskarteng AI”
The movement is not stopping at training. Recognition is also evolving.
PLDT Home announced that next year’s Gawad Madiskarte will introduce a new category: the Diskarteng Digital Award. This will honor mompreneurs who successfully integrate AI into their businesses and demonstrate innovation-driven growth.
According to Prep Palacios, Country Manager of Google Philippines, the award reflects the future of entrepreneurship.
“The modern Filipina entrepreneur is not just participating in the digital economy. She is leading it,” he said. “This is about celebrating growth, innovation, and an AI-first mindset.”
Why This Shift Matters
As AI becomes central to business and economic growth, digital literacy is no longer optional. Without it, many risk being left behind in the next wave of economic opportunity.
By combining connectivity with capability, initiatives like MMPH and Gemini Academy are ensuring Filipino women are not just adapting to change, they are shaping it.
The future of entrepreneurship is no longer just about being online. It is about using technology to think bigger, move faster, and build smarter businesses.
For Filipino mompreneurs, “diskarte” now has a new definition, AI-powered, future-ready, and globally competitive.
