TCL Reaches 100 Million Air Conditioners in Five Years as Guangzhou Smart Manufacturing Base Redefines Intelligent Production
In a milestone that underscores the rapid transformation of China’s home appliance industry, TCL Air Conditioner has officially inaugurated its Guangzhou Smart Manufacturing Base in Nansha, Guangzhou, alongside a landmark achievement of 100 million units produced in just five years.
Held on March 28, the inauguration ceremony carried the theme “Beyond 100 Million, Innovating a Smarter Future,” marking not only a production milestone but also a new chapter in advanced manufacturing powered by artificial intelligence, automation, and sustainable industrial design.
A New Industrial Landmark in the Greater Bay Area
The newly launched TCL Air Conditioner Guangzhou Smart Manufacturing Base is emerging as one of the most advanced production hubs in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Built with a total investment of nearly 2 billion yuan and spanning 303 mu, the facility integrates cutting-edge AI manufacturing systems, intelligent production lines, and a full ecosystem of industrial support technologies.
Designed to strengthen regional industry clusters, the base is expected to generate an output value of 3 billion yuan by 2026 and surpass 10 billion yuan within five years. It is also projected to create more than 10,000 jobs across TCL’s ecosystem and partner enterprises, reinforcing Nansha’s role as a rising manufacturing powerhouse.
One Air Conditioner Every Seven Seconds Powered by AI
At the heart of the facility is a globally leading supercomputer-driven production system that redefines industrial speed and precision. With an annual capacity of 8 million units, the factory operates at a production pace of one air conditioner every seven seconds.
This performance is powered by an AI supercomputing center capable of 300 quintillion operations per second, processing data from 17,000 IoT sensors and coordinating over 2,000 AI agents in real time. The system enables continuous optimization of production, logistics, and quality control across the entire manufacturing chain.
The base also features 15 advanced laboratories, 10 intelligent production lines, and three highly flexible “dark factories” operating without human lighting, symbolizing fully automated, around the clock manufacturing.
Breakthrough Automation and Zero-Carbon Production
A key highlight of the facility is the world’s only AI-driven ultra high precision heat exchanger production line. Through intelligent robotics and machine learning algorithms, it achieves fully automated stamping, punching, and expansion processes for core components such as evaporators and condensers, boosting labor efficiency by more than 41 percent.
Beyond productivity, the base is also designed as a model for sustainable manufacturing. Covering 50,000 square meters of photovoltaic installations with integrated energy storage systems, the facility generates approximately 6.98 million kWh of clean energy annually, saving more than 2,000 tons of standard coal.
With AI enabled energy management, emissions are reduced to near zero levels for waste gas, solid waste, and wastewater, positioning the site as a fully digital and low carbon industrial park.
Strengthening China’s Global Manufacturing Presence
Local government representatives emphasized the strategic importance of the project in strengthening industrial competitiveness within the Greater Bay Area. The base is expected to support upstream and downstream industries such as precision components, electronics, and logistics, reinforcing China’s global manufacturing supply chain.
Industry leaders also highlighted TCL’s role in advancing innovation across the refrigeration and air conditioning sector, noting its contributions to technology development, global standards, and green transformation.
Retail and e commerce partners echoed this sentiment, pointing to how large scale intelligent manufacturing is improving product accessibility and accelerating industry wide modernization.
From Scale to Smart Leadership: 100 Million Units and Counting
Since 2021, TCL Air Conditioner has reached a cumulative production milestone of 100 million units, reflecting both global demand and a shift from mass production to technology driven manufacturing leadership.
Today, the company operates with an annual production capacity exceeding 38 million units, with products sold in more than 160 countries and regions. It ranks among the top global exporters and top three in worldwide sales within the air conditioning industry.
Its latest generation of AI powered products, including the FreshIN series, is built around three core user focused innovations: AI Sleep, AI Comfort, and AI Fresh Air.
AI That Redefines Sleep and Indoor Comfort
Among its flagship innovations, TCL FreshIN AI air conditioners integrate millimeter wave sensing technology to detect sleep patterns and adjust temperature dynamically throughout the night.
The system is designed to address common sleep disruptions such as temperature fluctuations, dry air, and discomfort caused by traditional air conditioning. By combining airflow control, oxygen enrichment, and humidity regulation, it creates a more stable indoor environment intended to improve sleep quality.
Rather than functioning as a traditional cooling device, the AI system adapts continuously to user behavior, positioning the air conditioner as an intelligent home environment manager.
A Shift Toward Ecosystem Driven Manufacturing
TCL’s long term strategy extends beyond individual product innovation. The company is building an integrated ecosystem that connects perception, decision making, and service delivery through AI driven systems.
This transformation allows air conditioners to evolve from reactive appliances into proactive environmental systems that anticipate user needs.
With its new Guangzhou base serving as a core engine, TCL aims to further expand its global supply chain, accelerate product innovation, and double production capacity within the next five years.
A Milestone That Signals the Future of Smart Industry
The inauguration brought together government leaders, industry experts, and global partners, reflecting the broader significance of the project for China’s industrial future.
More than a factory launch, the TCL Air Conditioner Guangzhou Smart Manufacturing Base represents a blueprint for the next era of manufacturing where automation, sustainability, and artificial intelligence converge to reshape how products are designed, built, and delivered to the world.
