Real Stories of Grab Drivers Changing Lives: From the Wheel to a Better Future

Grab Philippines’ “Itatawid, Ihahatid” campaign returns for its second year, celebrating the resilience and dedication of GrabCar drivers and GrabFood riders who serve as everyday heroes on our streets.

Inspired by real experiences, the campaign features two viral short films highlighting the journeys of Ronald “Ronni” Petterson, a 63-year-old GrabCar driver, and Mary Joy Flores, a 22-year-old GrabFood cyclist. More than just inspiring testimonials, these true stories reflect how Grab’s ecosystem of support uplifts thousands of Filipino familie, one ride and one delivery at a time.

Ronni Petterson, 63: A Senior GrabCar Driver Redefining Retirement

Ronni’s journey as a GrabCar driver began after careers in corporate training and TV. Now, at 63, he finds renewed purpose behind the wheel.

“Driving for Grab lets me stay productive, support my family, and interact with people every day, that’s a gift at my age,” shares Ronni.

Grab’s GrabAcademy, an in-app learning platform, equips Ronni with digital tools and customer service training to stay competitive. He also benefited from GrabFinance’s GrabAsenso Loans, a micro-loan product tailored for partner-drivers needing flexible financial support.

“They deduct the loan from my daily earnings, so repayment is painless. It’s helped me through tight spots.”

Ronni is also a recipient of Ka-Grab Rewards, receiving performance-based incentives, pharmacy discounts, and exclusive vouchers. For him, driving is not just about transportation, it’s about staying independent and valued as a senior contributor to society.

Mary Joy Flores, 22: A GrabFood Cyclist Delivering Hope

Mary Joy’s story is one of grit, responsibility, and optimism. As the main provider for her baby and four younger siblings, she turned to GrabFood cycling after trying multiple informal jobs.

“With every delivery, I’m helping send my siblings to school. After December, I was finally able to buy them uniforms and supplies,” she proudly says.

Grab’s flexible micro-financing options have helped Mary Joy bridge financial gaps, allowing her to keep supporting her family even in tough times.

“Traditional loans wouldn’t approve me, but Grab looks at my work and performance. That kind of trust is rare.”

For her, Grab isn’t just a job, it’s a stepping stone to a better future, backed by a platform that values inclusion and social mobility.

Programs that Drive Social Impact in the Philippines

Grab’s commitment to its driver- and delivery-partners goes beyond financial support:

  • GrabScholar Program has awarded over 900 educational grants and 18 full scholarships to children of Grab partners.
  • GrabCare and MOVE IT Malasakit programs have delivered millions in emergency aid for medical crises and disasters.
  • The Kaagapay Program subsidizes Pag-IBIG contributions, unlocking access to housing and government benefits for partners in Metro Manila and Cebu.

Every initiative is rooted in malasakit, a deep-seated compassion that supports drivers not just as workers, but as parents, students, and community leaders.

A Ride Toward a Better Tomorrow

The “Itatawid, Ihahatid” campaign reminds us that behind every Grab ride or food delivery is a personal journey. For Ronni and Mary Joy, their work with Grab isn’t just about meeting ends, it’s about building a better life for their loved ones.

Grab continues to drive positive change by enabling platform workers with the tools, trust, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Because with every kilometer driven, and every meal delivered, they’re not just reaching a destination, they’re bringing their families and dreams along with them.
