Empowering Cavite Youth: Home Credit and SIGMA Bring Muay Thai to the Community
Home Credit Philippines champions youth development through a free Muay Thai summer sports program in Cavite, under its Alagang Home CSR initiative.
Home Credit Philippines, one of the country’s leading consumer finance companies, recently concluded the second year of its partnership with Self-Defense & Independent Guardian Martial Arts (SIGMA) through a free Muay Thai Summer Sports Clinic. The program was designed to instill discipline, boost confidence, and encourage healthy lifestyles among children aged 8 to 12 from Bacoor, Cavite and nearby areas.
A total of 120 young participants took part in this summer-long program, which not only introduced them to the fundamentals of Muay Thai but also fostered camaraderie and personal growth. This initiative is part of Alagang Home, Home Credit’s corporate social responsibility program that goes beyond financial inclusion by supporting community-building efforts, particularly for the youth.
At the culmination event on June 7, the children showcased their newly learned skills in front of their families, coaches, and special guests during a graduation ceremony. Certificates of completion were awarded by representatives from Home Credit and SIGMA, recognizing the hard work and progress of each participant.
Muay Thai, a traditional martial art and the national sport of Thailand, is known not only for its physical benefits but also for teaching valuable life skills such as self-discipline, perseverance, and respect.
“We are very grateful that Home Credit once again partnered with us to make this program possible,” said John Derick Ignes, owner of the Muay Thai Sports Clinic. “More than just teaching self-defense, this training helps build character in our youth.”
Parents also noticed the positive changes in their children. Angel Rubi Cruz shared, “Muay Thai helped my kids stay active and away from gadgets. They’re learning self-defense and, more importantly, discipline.” Josefina Canaria added, “My children now know how to protect themselves, especially in situations where they might be bullied.”
Bess Sia, a grandparent of one participant, noted the increased confidence in her grandchild. “He used to be bullied, but now he’s learning to defend himself and understands how to use his strength responsibly.”
This program is one of many ways Home Credit aims to uplift Filipino communities through Alagang Home. It underscores the company’s dedication not just to offering financial services, but also to nurturing future generations.
“We believe in giving back, especially to the youth who will shape our future,” said Portia La-ab, ESG Lead at Home Credit Philippines. “As we serve millions of Filipinos through accessible financing, we’re equally committed to creating meaningful, values-driven programs that empower communities.”
The Muay Thai Summer Sports Clinic reflects Home Credit’s vision of building a stronger, more resilient youth—one community at a time. More Alagang Home initiatives are planned across the country, each reinforcing Home Credit’s role as a trusted partner in shaping a brighter tomorrow.
