Kuya Kim Puts MOVE IT’s Rider Onboarding to the Test, Finds It’s Tough for a Reason
Veteran journalist and motorcycle enthusiast Kuya Kim Atienza takes on MOVE IT’s rider onboarding process and discovers why it’s one of the strictest in the motorcycle taxi industry.
MOVE IT, a leading motorcycle taxi platform in the Philippines, recently invited Kuya Kim Atienza to go through its comprehensive onboarding and rider certification process. As a passionate motorcycle rider himself, Kuya Kim was more than up for the challenge. What he found, however, was that becoming a MOVE IT rider takes more than just riding experience, it requires passing a strict, multi-step program built around safety, skill, and service.
In a vlog shared on his Facebook page, Kuya Kim documented his entire experience as he went through MOVE IT’s six-step onboarding journey. Designed to uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism, this process ensures that only the most qualified riders make it onto the platform.
Here’s what he went through:
1. Document Screening
All MOVE IT applicants must complete full background checks, including clearances from the NBI, police, and CIBI. Riders are also required to undergo drug and medical testing upon application and every six months afterward.
2. Vehicle Inspection
Each motorcycle must pass a detailed inspection to ensure it meets the safety standards outlined in the Motorcycle Taxi Pilot Study. Roadworthiness is non-negotiable.
3. Skills Assessment
Kuya Kim faced real-world riding tests that evaluated his ability to control the motorcycle, carry a backrider safely, and navigate traffic conditions. These tests simulate daily ride scenarios to verify a rider’s road-readiness.
4. Training and Orientation
Riders must complete a classroom-based session that covers road safety rules, customer service standards, and how to navigate the MOVE IT app. Annual retraining is mandatory to keep every rider up to date.
5. Account Activation
Only after successfully passing all previous steps is a rider’s account officially activated, allowing them to begin accepting passenger bookings on the MOVE IT platform.
6. Safety Gear Release
As part of its commitment to professionalism and safety, MOVE IT provides each certified rider with free, high-quality protective gear.
Kuya Kim’s Take: It’s Not an Easy Ride to Get In
Despite his years of riding experience, Kuya Kim admitted that the MOVE IT onboarding process was no walk in the park. It’s a clear demonstration of how seriously the platform takes safety and rider preparedness. According to him, MOVE IT sets a gold standard for motorcycle taxi services in the country, and proves that quality and accountability start with onboarding.
Introducing I-Sumbong Mo sa MOVE IT
Alongside this hands-on experience, Kuya Kim also helped unveil a new customer feedback tool called I-Sumbong Mo sa MOVE IT. This feature, available via Facebook Messenger, gives passengers a quick and accessible way to report concerns related to safety or rider behavior. It complements existing feedback options within the MOVE IT app, such as rider ratings and the “Report an Issue” button.
With stricter onboarding, consistent retraining, and now more responsive passenger feedback tools, MOVE IT continues to lead the way in raising the bar for motorcycle taxi services in the Philippines.
