Through the Filipino Lens: Earth+Lens 2025 Unveils Stunning HUAWEI Pura 80 Photo Stories at Manila Hotel
“I’ve always loved capturing one-eye photos of my kids, something about that quiet gaze, full of curiosity, always drew me in. This shot brought all that back.
The child’s eye reflecting what looks like light from the universe… it’s magical. Like they’re staring into something bigger than all of us. That small moment, captured by #HUAWEIPura80Series, reminds me why I used to take photos like this, to freeze that sense of wonder.
It’s amazing what we can see #ThroughTheFilipinoEyes. With #EarthPlusLens2025 and the power of #HUAWEIXMAGE, even the reflection in a child’s eye can feel like a window to space.”
That caption came to life last night as we stood before dozens of breathtaking images at the Earth+Lens 2025 photo exhibit, held at the iconic Manila Hotel’s Maynila Ballroom. More than just a gallery, it was a visual love letter to the Philippines, its landscapes, its culture, its people, all seen through the authentic and deeply personal lens of Filipino storytellers.
A Night of Vision and Purpose
Organized by the Manila Bulletin, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and HUAWEI Philippines, Earth+Lens 2025 once again delivered on its promise: to champion Filipino creativity while advocating for the preservation of the country's natural and cultural heritage.
“This event would not be possible without the support of our partners,” said Dr. Emil Yap III, president of Manila Bulletin, during his opening remarks. “To Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco of the Department of Tourism, thank you for championing our country’s natural wonders. And to HUAWEI Philippines, we are grateful for your innovation that empowers artists and storytellers to capture and share these powerful images.”
Through the Filipino Eyes
This year’s theme, “Through the Filipino Eyes,” invited both seasoned and emerging photographers to document the stories only locals can tell. Each photo served as a window into a uniquely Filipino perspective, familiar but fresh, nostalgic yet forward-looking.
Among the standout contributors were Gab Mejia, Jim De Ramos, and Manila Bulletin’s very own content producers: John Louie Abrina, Jaime Misalucha Jr., and Santi San Juan. A special set of images by world-renowned artist Kublai Millan, taken from his overseas work, brought an elevated sense of global reach and artistic prestige to the event.
Technology Meets Storytelling
All images displayed were shot exclusively using the HUAWEI Pura 80 Series, showcasing the power of mobile photography in telling compelling, high-impact stories. From the sharpness of a dewdrop on a rice field to the quiet emotion in a child’s eyes, the Pura 80’s technology truly brought these moments to life.
Gab Mejia, a National Geographic Explorer, shared his campaign journey through Zamboanga del Sur and Rizal, reflecting on how this project deepened his connection to both land and culture. “There’s just so much richness in our heritage waiting to be discovered,” he said. “The HUAWEI Pura 80 Ultra let me stay fluid with my process. It felt like the camera was working with me, not just for me.”
Exclusive Product Launch: HUAWEI Pura 80 Series
Another highlight of the evening was the official launch of the HUAWEI Pura 80, led by Ernest Ortega, HUAWEI Philippines product expert. Attendees got a first-hand look at the smartphone’s industry-first Switchable Dual Telephoto Camera, along with a 50MP Ultra Lighting HDR main camera, a 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and 100x digital zoom capability. It’s a clear message from HUAWEI: mobile photography has arrived, and it’s not backing down.
The technology didn’t just complement the event, it elevated it. These phones aren't just tools. They're enablers of stories, moments, and memories, especially when paired with campaigns like Earth+Lens.
A Continuing Commitment to Culture and Conservation
The Earth+Lens initiative remains aligned with the DOT’s “Love the Philippines” campaign, fostering both pride and responsibility. It encourages Filipinos to look closer at the beauty surrounding them and reminds us that preserving it begins with truly seeing it.
Whether you're a professional storyteller or someone simply chasing light through a lens, Earth+Lens 2025 is a reminder that beauty, heritage, and hope are worth capturing, and worth keeping.
