GROHE Expands Eco-Friendly Product Line with Cradle to Cradle Certified Innovations
As the construction industry faces growing pressure to address climate change and reduce waste, sustainability is no longer just an option, it’s a necessity.
According to the 2021 Circularity Gap Report, over 100 billion tons of raw materials are extracted annually for the building and construction sectors, making them the largest contributors to global waste. In response to this urgent challenge, GROHE, a leading global brand for complete bathroom solutions and kitchen fittings, continues to lead the way with a circular economy approach.
Driving Change with Cradle to Cradle Certified Products
GROHE has long embraced the Cradle to Cradle® (C2C) design philosophy, which focuses on keeping materials in continuous use through responsible recycling and repurposing. Unlike traditional “take-make-waste” models, the Cradle to Cradle approach ensures that products are designed with their entire lifecycle in mind. Materials are evaluated across five key sustainability categories: Material Health, Product Circularity, Clean Air and Climate Protection, Water Stewardship, and Social Fairness.
This year, GROHE has taken its commitment a step further by expanding its C2C Certified portfolio with four new products achieving the prestigious Gold certification:
- BauEdge S-Size
- Eurosmart S-Size
- Eurosmart Kitchen
- Tempesta Shower Rail Set
Gold certification demands higher standards, particularly in the purity and safety of materials used—highlighting GROHE’s dedication to designing products that meet rigorous environmental and human health criteria.
Building on a Strong Foundation
GROHE’s journey with Cradle to Cradle certification began in 2021 with two products receiving Bronze-level certification:
- GROHE Tempesta Two-Spray Hand Shower
- GROHE Blue Filters
While Bronze certification recognizes products that meet baseline sustainability and material safety standards, the shift to Gold demonstrates GROHE’s progress toward even greater environmental responsibility.
Partnering for Sustainable Innovation
To ensure transparency and integrity in the certification process, GROHE collaborated with EPEA GmbH, an accredited assessment body and part of Drees & Sommer, based in Hamburg. Each C2C Certified product must undergo recertification every two years, ensuring ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
Leading the Way in Sustainable Design
With a total of six Cradle to Cradle Certified products and more innovations on the horizon, GROHE is setting a strong example for the construction and design industries. By designing products with reuse and recyclability in mind, the brand is helping to reshape how we think about materials, waste, and sustainability in the built environment.
