Caritas Manila Provides Lifeline Support to Manila Transport Workers Facing Rising Costs
Amid rising fuel prices and the growing pressure of global economic challenges, many Filipino transport workers continue to struggle just to keep their daily routes running.
In the heart of Manila, that struggle was met with a timely response grounded in compassion and service.Caritas Manila stepped in to support jeepney and tricycle drivers in Pandacan, offering relief that went beyond material aid. A total of 176 drivers, members of the Pandacan Drivers Association (PANDASS) and the Pandacan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (PATODA), each received ₱2,000 worth of gift certificates to help cover food and other essential needs.
The distribution was held on April 20, 2026 at the Caritas Manila Multi-Purpose Building under the initiative titled “Sa Harap ng Hirap… Habag.” While the program addressed urgent financial needs, it also reflected something deeper: solidarity with workers who continue to serve the city despite hardship.
The assistance comes at a time when global conflicts have contributed to rising fuel costs and increased prices of basic commodities, directly affecting the livelihoods of drivers who rely on daily earnings.
For many beneficiaries, the moment was more than relief. It became a reminder that they are not alone in their struggles, and that support systems still exist for those most affected by crisis. The initiative reflected Caritas Manila’s ongoing mission of turning charity into concrete action through its disaster response program, Damayan.
Through these efforts, hope becomes tangible. Each act of assistance represents a shared commitment to help families stay afloat during uncertain times, especially those working on the frontlines of urban mobility.
Caritas Manila continues to call on individuals and organizations to extend support, as the reach of its programs depends heavily on the generosity of donors. With wider participation, more vulnerable communities can receive timely aid when they need it most.
