Growth for many Filipino entrepreneurs often begins with one key factor access to the right platform.

For Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, that access can become a turning point that transforms small beginnings into national and even global success stories.

Alvin Causing of Project Beans Coffee shared how his journey started at a DTI trade fair hosted in SM. That moment gave his brand its first major breakthrough after his product caught the attention of key industry figures, opening doors to SM Kultura. From a small startup, the business has now grown into a widely recognized brand. He shared that SM did more than provide space, it provided opportunity that changed the direction of their growth.

Stories like this reflect the heart of the partnership between the Department of Trade and Industry and SM Supermalls, where exposure becomes expansion and opportunity leads to long term business transformation.

Held at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall from April 8 to 12, the 2026 DTI National Food Fair brought together thousands of MSMEs from across the Philippines. More than a marketplace, the event became a dynamic platform for entrepreneurship, innovation, and national development.

The fair officially opened through a ribbon cutting ceremony led by DTI Secretary Cristina Roque, alongside DTI Assistant Secretary Nylah Bautista and Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Laurel Jr. Their presence underscored a unified commitment to strengthening Filipino enterprises and expanding their reach.

Through the combined efforts of DTI and SM Supermalls, the five day event turned a retail space into a powerful growth engine where businesses could not only sell but also scale and build stronger market presence.

A Platform That Builds Real Business Growth

For many MSMEs, the National Food Fair is more than exposure. It serves as a launchpad for expansion. DTI’s enterprise development programs combined with SM Supermalls’ nationwide retail ecosystem create a strong pathway for growth.

King Del Rosario of Coffee and Mead Corporation shared how his business evolved from a small coffee shop into a manufacturing enterprise. He credited opportunities like the DTI National Food Fair at SM Megamall for accelerating their growth by increasing visibility, strengthening sales, and expanding market reach.

Connecting Local Businesses to National Markets

For regional entrepreneurs, breaking into larger markets is often the greatest challenge. The fair helps remove that barrier by linking provincial businesses with national buyers and consumers.

Larry Lee Ong of Orange Country Enterprises shared that through DTI trade fairs at SM Supermalls, their products from Bicol reached a nationwide audience. This exposure led to partnerships with major buyers and helped transform their company from a regional brand into a growing national player.

The platform allows MSMEs to move beyond local limitations and compete in a broader market landscape.

When Demand Meets Opportunity

For some businesses, demand is already strong but access to larger markets becomes the key to sustaining growth. The fair helps bridge that gap.

Alvin Samson of Easter Joy Rabbit Ventures shared that demand for their products continues to exceed supply. He noted that participation in SM events consistently leads to strong sales and high customer engagement, proving how the platform supports faster expansion and wider reach.

More Than Products, A Celebration of Culture

The fair also highlights the cultural identity behind Filipino entrepreneurship. MSMEs are not just business owners, they are storytellers of heritage and tradition.

Sherly Biase of Basilios Kini ing Food Processing shared how their participation allows them to introduce Cordilleran cuisine to a wider audience. Beyond promoting local food, their work supports farmers and creates sustainable livelihoods. For them, SM provides not just traffic but the right market that helps preserve culture while enabling growth.

A Partnership for Inclusive Economic Progress

The 2026 DTI National Food Fair highlights a strong collaboration between key sectors. DTI focuses on capacity building and enterprise support. SM Supermalls provides scale, accessibility, and market integration. MSMEs bring innovation, resilience, and authentic Filipino products to the forefront.

DTI Secretary Cristina Roque emphasized that this partnership brings MSMEs closer to consumers not only in Metro Manila but across the entire country.

With more than 17,000 MSMEs nationwide, SM Supermalls continues to evolve beyond a retail destination. It now plays a key role in driving inclusive economic development and supporting local entrepreneurship.

The event also featured cultural performances from the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra and Indak Guiguinto Folkloric Dance Troupe, while hosted walkthroughs led by Karen Davila showcased the diversity and potential of Filipino food enterprises.

Building a Stronger Future Through MSMEs

The 2026 DTI National Food Fair demonstrates what is possible when public and private sectors work together. MSMEs are no longer just participants in the economy, they are active builders of it.

At SM Supermalls, every booth represents more than a product. It represents growth, livelihood, and opportunity.

The fair runs at SM Megamall until April 12, inviting the public to support and celebrate Filipino entrepreneurship while witnessing how local businesses continue shaping the future of the Philippine economy.
