FedEx Volunteers Plant 2,000 Trees in Sierra Madre to Boost Philippines Reforestation Efforts This Earth Month
More than 100 volunteers from FedEx Philippines came together in San Miguel, Bulacan, for a large-scale tree planting initiative aimed at restoring forests in the Sierra Madre mountain range during Earth Month.
The activity highlights the company’s long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and community-driven reforestation. On April 11, 2026, FedEx employees partnered with the GreenEarth Foundation to plant 2,000 malunggay (moringa) trees across an estimated 5,000 square meters of land. The choice of malunggay was intentional, as this native species is known for its fast growth, resilience in local conditions, and wide-ranging environmental and nutritional benefits. These qualities make it especially valuable for ecosystem recovery and potential community livelihood support.
Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director of FedEx Philippines, emphasized the importance of collective action in protecting the environment. She noted that volunteer efforts like this help rebuild forest cover, strengthen biodiversity, and improve the health of natural ecosystems that many communities depend on for survival and stability.
The Philippines continues to face serious challenges related to deforestation, with over a million hectares of tree cover lost in recent decades. This ongoing environmental concern has increased the urgency for reforestation programs that can restore degraded land, reduce soil erosion, and improve long-term climate resilience across vulnerable regions.
FedEx employees actively participated in planting malunggay trees as part of broader efforts to support sustainable development in Sierra Madre while contributing to environmental restoration projects in local communities.
This initiative is part of FedEx Cares, the global community engagement program of Federal Express Corporation. Through FedEx Cares, the company supports volunteerism, charitable giving, and in-kind services designed to create meaningful environmental and social impact in the communities it serves.
By bringing employees together for hands-on environmental action, FedEx reinforces its role in supporting reforestation and sustainability efforts across the Philippines, while helping protect vital ecosystems for future generations.
